The real reason I've taken up boxing is so I can personally take out every single dickwad who doesn't use headphones on public transit

Mystery Caloplaca on branches of a dead shrub (cf. Sarcobatus vermiculatus) from southern Alberta. Maybe just C. pyracea? No lower cortex. The immersed apothecia are so distinctive and don't look like anything else I collected, except maybe C. saxicola. #prairielichens

I followed this Rusaviska elegans #lichen for 1 year and 1 month, taking regular photos (with my cellphone).

This is the preliminary result:

crust punk but it's about crust lichens... is this anything??

Another technical post: My favorite instrument of the day is the acupuncture needle - perfect for picking up fine sections of lichen and manipulating them on the slide.

Dissection pins are mostly useless, fixing pins (for texiles) are too short for me. The larger acupuncture needles are perfect!
