A question for microsky.

I want to build a custom horizontal setup and am thinking of mounting a prior xy stage vertically.

Is this an obviously dumb move and it will break?

This it what it looks in practice. It is boring and I should go to bed but I am still missing 2 positions so I post here #macrophotography #lichen

Up and down we go.
It would be nice to automate this - I have not yet found a good way to synchronize a prior stage and the wemacro rail.

Its semi-manual at the moment.

Stack and stitch works surprisingly well on macro...

Cladonia chrolophaea agg. (I think).

Stacking with raw and 4-pixel shift. The images blow my mind - the process, shooting, stacking and developing from raw, is slow - - Probably not what I will be doing regularly.

Lichen people: Do you have ideas how to use such images to add value?

Tetracladium setigerum #AquaticHyphomycetes in a foam sample from Hannover.

The melting snow filled a drainage ditch which runs to the Mittellandkanal with a small waterfall. Lots of foam for a nice sample.

Are there any experiences or opinions on 3d printed diffusers for #macrophotography?

Placidium squamulosum #lichen to test out my new Mitutoyo M Plan APO 5x 😀 #macrophotography.

Parmelia submontana #lichen. An old sample as a way of getting to know the new setup.

Yesterday was my first experience with AI slop contaminating my search to the extent that I was not able to resolve my question (in the time I had).

I was looking for a naan bread recipe and found only incoherent, implausible or recipes lacking a ingredient list - but with many "beautiful" words.

I haven't been #lichen posting for a while and now I am back with a question (I should not touch sterile crusts…)

This one is from silicous boulders in a small forest creek 480m asl.
Grey areolare crust with prominent green deliminated soralia. K-, C-, KC-, P-. UV white-ish.

"Dirt" in the water samples. I think the closer you look the more beautiful things get.

Dendrospora tenella (I think) is my favourite Ingoldian spore #AquaticHyphomycetes.

My best microscope accessory acquired last year was an old dictation foot pedal with 3 buttons - bound to start/stop live view, add/remove scalebar and take photo. Makes going through the #AquaticHyphomycetes and #lichen samples much faster.

I dedicated the last evenings to #AquaticHyphomycetes and worked on the samples I took in Dec'25 in the Taunus.

These were very common conidia - and I each time I look at them I come to a different conclusion. Lemonniera terrestris or Alatospora acuminata or something else? @fayrnhawk.bsky.social

I am playing around with the new macro setup, figuring out how to get lighting and positioning done. 20x is far too close for #lichen "identification" purposes, however it yields insights you cannot gain with a normal section.

Xanthocarpia cf. lacteoides (I think) #lichen on limestone. A sample I have worked on before. The black are pigmented algae overgrowing the yellow lichen thallus.

Do you think it might be possible to capture released spores in macro? I think you can see the tips of asci/paraphyses.

#Lichen supermacro riddle. What do we see here?
(hint, I have posted an overview picture of this lichen before).

The lichen Placynthium nigrum, the best I've ever seen. Found on limestone, both worked and natural. The blue colour is where the fungal hyphae have grown out without alga, making this an easy ID #lichen #lichenGBI
