This it what it looks in practice. It is boring and I should go to bed but I am still missing 2 positions so I post here #macrophotography #lichen

Up and down we go.
It would be nice to automate this - I have not yet found a good way to synchronize a prior stage and the wemacro rail.

Its semi-manual at the moment.

Stack and stitch works surprisingly well on macro...

Cladonia chrolophaea agg. (I think).

Stacking with raw and 4-pixel shift. The images blow my mind - the process, shooting, stacking and developing from raw, is slow - - Probably not what I will be doing regularly.

Lichen people: Do you have ideas how to use such images to add value?

Are there any experiences or opinions on 3d printed diffusers for #macrophotography?

Details of hyphae extending into fissures.

Placidium squamulosum #lichen to test out my new Mitutoyo M Plan APO 5x 😀 #macrophotography.

Parmelia submontana #lichen. An old sample as a way of getting to know the new setup.

I'm not good describing colors but this is the K/UV (wet). When dry the greenish tint goes away but the reddish stays. It that mauve? The images with the cellphone captures my impression quite well.

Pizza Dali...

The only reaction I can detect is a veil of grey lifting after K (sedifolia grey?).

Origin of the sample and habitat.

I haven't been #lichen posting for a while and now I am back with a question (I should not touch sterile crusts…)

This one is from silicous boulders in a small forest creek 480m asl.
Grey areolare crust with prominent green deliminated soralia. K-, C-, KC-, P-. UV white-ish.

Even more dirt in water.

More dirt

"Dirt" in the water samples. I think the closer you look the more beautiful things get.

Dendrospora tenella (I think) is my favourite Ingoldian spore #AquaticHyphomycetes.
January 5, 2026 at 9:50 PM
Hard to tell. When going through my pictures I find several that appear to have one side at least accentuated

My best microscope accessory acquired last year was an old dictation foot pedal with 3 buttons - bound to start/stop live view, add/remove scalebar and take photo. Makes going through the #AquaticHyphomycetes and #lichen samples much faster.
January 4, 2026 at 8:35 PM
I dedicated the last evenings to #AquaticHyphomycetes and worked on the samples I took in Dec'25 in the Taunus.

These were very common conidia - and I each time I look at them I come to a different conclusion. Lemonniera terrestris or Alatospora acuminata or something else? @fayrnhawk.bsky.social

I think they survived. Not jet as active as before - nothing a warm pass or two wouldn't fix.

Just minutes from midnight - you saved 2 lives this year
