What is VERY concerning is the extremely wishy-washy response from chippy about this.

We need an opposition party strong on messaging:

"Red tape" protects people. Protects communities. Protects the environment.

"Too much red tape" is bad. But this govt's judgement has proven to be very bad.

National have been going a hundy in the PR since Labour last oulled ahead, paying for soft focus magazine articles and positive press across a range of media.

ACT have been systematically targeting the Greens in a sustained fashion.

NACT have money and can buy fawning media attention.

No. Tell hipkins to stop laying into the greens. HE is handing the right another victory. He's way too agreeable to the right on things he shouldn't be

Ahh what's that movie with Tim Curry in it? I need to watch it

@chrishipkins.bsky.social Labour's acting like the Dems prior to Trump's win: weak, tepid, pandering to the right.

It worked for Starmer because voters had a really long time to be sick of the incumbents... And the UK system let them win with only 34% of the vote.

Real progressive policy needed.
December 3, 2025 at 7:26 PM
That's on you.

We need a RED Labour. Not this pale blue.

Labour (and their supporters) fail to recognise that weak policy doesn't win elections. Strong messaging does.

Eg: Hipkins could have pointed out, factually, 90% of last years rated rises were National's fault, they cancelled 3 waters fund.

This. A UBI would have a massive stimulating effect on the economy. A huge swathe of the population would have both more money and more time to invest in new projects.
December 2, 2025 at 7:09 AM
I am accepting political reality: in the current situation with public service and the economy, we need better from Labour than what we are getting.

If we "can't change the government without Labour", all the more reason to be critical if what Labour is doing isn't good enough.
December 2, 2025 at 7:00 AM
Your only argument has been "Labour needed". I have offered a bunch of reasons why that is not so. Your loyalty to the party is admirable, but it gets in the way of seeing the ways in which the party and its leader are doing and saying problematic things.
December 2, 2025 at 1:55 AM
Name-calling is hugely counter-productive. I'm not wedded to any party, i want the best for New Zealand. Do you?

I'm not convinced Hipkins does.

bsky.app/profile/conn...
WTF do you mean 'agree in principle', like I mean the other comments are good, but its a dumb policy and I have no idea why Hipkins thinks otherwise.

Just goes back to the point that central government politicians do not understand or care about local government.

"fake it till you make it", or in this case, "fake it when you dont make it"
December 1, 2025 at 10:30 PM
SUBSTANCE. Rather than projection. Even the NZCTU is saying give us a reason to vote Labour. #nzpol
December 1, 2025 at 10:25 PM
That's on you. I was very clear about where i stand: Labour too "centrist" with policy, not a strong opposition, attacking their potential coalition partners... And leaving far too much speculation they will go with NZF.

This leads to concerns there will not be the changes needed for a better NZ.
December 1, 2025 at 10:23 PM
Characterising my opinion as "whiny" rather than engaging with the substance of it is on you.
December 1, 2025 at 6:22 PM
You keep repeating that as if it means something. and yes, i will be "whingey" because Labour is failing to meet the moment. You need to be better at situational awareness.
November 30, 2025 at 11:49 PM
"you have no self awareness" doesnt mean anything. Just like your desperate "hypocrite" call. And finish the sentence properly: we need Labour TO MEET THE MOMENT. The AGM gave me very low confidence that Labour will do much to fix everything the current Coalition of Chaos has broken. Too timid.
November 30, 2025 at 10:04 PM
Fair. I hope enough people realise that things are different now, much more dire, and we need a govt prepared to meet that moment.
