My thesis is now online! I use broadside ballads, probate inventories, petitions, and court depositions to learn more about who ran the early modern alehouse in southwest England (and indeed the rest of England), and what this actually involved 🍻

Oh it was fab! And we had Prof David Olusoga (one of the top ten humans, in my eyes) give the speech beforehand 🤩

Thank you Brodie! 🎉

And that’s a wrap! Doing a PhD with @markhailwood.bsky.social and Prof. Jane Whittle (with Dr. Tyler Rainford, left, as my PhD brother) was the absolute best. I may not be in academia, but you can bet I’ll still be infiltrating @drinkingstudies.bsky.social anyway 😂❤️

Definitely interested!

Pam's writing retreats are honestly top notch - the best I've been to. #Skystorians, take note :)
pamplemoussepam.bsky.social
Someone asked me how they could find my writers' retreats. I've recreated my diary of events to help you find me. Many are 'invitation only' but some are more open & some organisers generously offer extra places to others: writingwithpam.wordpress.com/diary/
Or you can book me yourself of course.

Yesterday I used this "AI -Free Statement" in a conference talk for the first time. Still trying to figure out the exact language.

Feel free to borrow, modify, etc.
At no point in this study did I use AI. This includes the literature review, logical organization, writing, analysis, and proofreading. I do not cite any studies that use AI, to the extent that it is possible to know.

In many histories of early modern printing houses, women play a secondary role. Heleen Wyffels questions this narrative and asks instead: what happens when we read the stories that printers themselves told about their family businesses? Widow Weldon was not the only woman brewing in St. Werburgh's parish in the 17th century. Widow Devine paid the same amount, £1 & 10 shillings for water for ale brewing in November of 1680. Widows were still very much a part of making ale and beer in 1600s Dublin.

This is an architectural drawing of St. Werburgh's Church in Dublin from 1780. It features the front of the church with a blend of Georgian and Baroque styles including large columns. A large tower rises above the main structure, with a clock and a spire.
