Having 70% of my income decided by various arts co decisions is some laugh honestly I’m squinting at that budget allocation with 50 million prayers and I’m not stressed at all. Honestly.

Oh god I can imagine!! No respect at all, yet the show can’t go on without you. It’s mental! Some support and visibility for arts workers in general would be huge. Because I’m both an arts worker and creative, seeing the glaring difference in respect is really obvious

Exactly!! I know it’s not perfect but honestly I’m just happy it’s staying. I know some people are upset it’ll only be expanded to a new cohort of 2000 but that’s a huge number all the same. Like only 800 people got the Arts Co agility award in 2024 in comparison.

I’d love that! I’m a freelance curator/festival coordinator and the disrespect towards those roles on all fronts including funding is just insane! So many people just assume these events come from nowhere

Exactly! And the end of the day, people just don’t respect the arts industry and the work that’s behind all media etc that they consume on a daily basis

Also wish people would read up on the scheme. One of the things I think really worked was the random lottery element. No need to worry about connections and nepotism. Seeing a lot of very bitter people claiming it’ll be all fine artists, etc but that’s not true

Hate encountering things outside my little bubble. Like the subsection of people that are really against the basic income for the arts. Like I know there’s lots else to fund but it’s all different pots lads. Apples and oranges!

We’re very lucky in Ireland that it’s a thing at all but always important to remind everyone of the bigger picture too

Sort of crazy to live in a country that most people are actively trying to emigrate from at all times yet in international artist spaces, people are wishing they could live here for the basic income, surreal.

It’s lovely to see but also lads, don’t fall for it. It won’t cover your rent!
