Harlan the Houae Centipede is growing.
I've read that these cute crawlies can live up to 10 years, and they're great for pest control.
Halan is the length of my thumb, and with those legs, easily the width.

For years, I thought this was a Norway Maple.
Once in a while, I'd look at the leaves and think, "No, Japanese Maple."
But I've never seen one this big in these parts.
Recently, an arborist confirmed, "No, Japanese Maple."
Whatever humans call it, this beauty is a showoff.

Fortunately, my brain came online & I remembered that it's a dagger moth caterpillar
It can cause skin irritation.
So, I used a fallen tulip poplar leaf to move it to cover.

Meet the Aphid Lion (Green Lacewing).
This adult is a fantastic pollinator.
In larva form, it gobbles up aphids, spider mites, & other critters that can harm plants & trees.
Aphid Lions are great neighbors,
another reason I don't rake fallen leaves, their winter shelter.
