Hey #believeinfilm friends,

This year's last episode of the Analog.Cafe Podcast is out!

Listen & links: www.analog.cafe/comments/t35y

Daren and I play with the new Kodak Snapic A1, and explain why we think this $100 camera is the best one in its class and a good 25mm lens in general. 🎞️📸

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

I've updated Chem Log, an app for tracking film development chemicals, to dispatch warnings whenever something is about to become exhausted or expired:

www.analog.cafe/comments/4b3q

The summary in the link above explains how it works. 🎞️📸

It's not a disclaimer, rather a nuance. Several studies examine the intersection of culture, prior experiences, prototypicality, and other factors that go beyond the initial appearance.

Hopefully, the bibliography gives you some cues (if you read them all, that's the article!)

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

If you were ever stuck with your film leader inside, this article is for you:

"How to Retrieve a 35mm Film Leader"

www.analog.cafe/r/how-to-ret...

I explain why a film picker should be your first choice (and which one is *hands down* the best). Plus, other tools. 🎞️📸

Heh #believeinfilm friends,

Have you ever wondered why some photos are better than others?

I found and read a dozen peer-reviewed scientific papers that explain *exactly* what makes images compelling in today's article:

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Today I review Kodacolor 100 — a surprise stock from Kodak that launched this fall:

www.analog.cafe/r/kodak-koda...

No one knows the origins of this film, though Kodak says it's a relaunch. I've examined a few possibilities, added samples & discussed grain & colour. 🎞️📸

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

What's the most popular camera film?

Actually, no one knows for sure.

"Top 10 Film Stocks According to 293 Photographers" is today's new article that offers a data-backed insight:

lol this is in CAD but damn near a hundred bucks for a roll of film is insanely overpriced.

If anyone here is shopping for film and wondering what an actual deal looks like, refer to this tool (which I built) that tracks global film price averages: www.analog.cafe/app/film-pri...

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

I have a tip for you on how to push film without actually push-processing it:

www.analog.cafe/comments/psy5

This can be helpful if your lab doesn't offer that service or if developing at home isn't possible (e.g., you're developing several films in one tank).

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

I've just updated my 2022 review of Ilford HP5+ with the new things I've learned while pushing it to ISO 100,000, pulling to ISO 3, and developing it with weed and other things:

www.analog.cafe/r/ilford-hp5...

I've also re-scanned my 2018 photos for this!

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

I just sent Analog.Cafe Newsletter №80 🎈!

If you haven't got it: www.analog.cafe/r/film-photo...

There, I chat a bit about the state of film photography, Kodak Snapic A1, OKTO35, Film Ferrania, Lucky Film, and how to print all of Analog.Cafe.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

New camera, Kodak Snapic A1:

www.analog.cafe/comments/5pvj

It has a 1/100s shutter with a fixed 𝒇9.5 25mm 3-element glass lens + zone focusing. Fully automatic film transport, flash, and a double-x switch. All for less than $100.

What do you think of these specs?

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

I just sent the 18th monthly member newsletter, where I talked about website updates (one of which lets you download Analog.Cafe articles and keep them forever), Lucky C200, and a movie camera that shoots on regular 135 film canisters!

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Have you heard of Lucky C200, the cheapest colour-negative film?

www.analog.cafe/r/lucky-c200...

In today's article, I'm comparing it to the "gold standard" of affordable colour-negative films: Kodak Gold.🎞️📸

Can you tell which is which and what those differences are?
November 18, 2025 at 4:50 PM
Hehe, actually, this film is kinda neat for certain scenes. This popped out as the first frame without edits. Although the physical aspects of the film were kinda sus when I loaded it (it easily tore off the canister, had a strange colour out of the tank, etc.).

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Pro Image is my favourite ISO 100 colour-negative film. I’ve been shooting it since '17.

www.analog.cafe/r/kodak-pro-...

Since I posted my review in '22, I’ve done a lot more — from pushing to overexposing and more.

This update adds everything I’ve learned since 🎞️📸

The GIF doesn't play here, so here's the video (see several clips from the camera in the article!)

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Have you ever wondered about shooting *movies* on film?

Typically, it's prohibitively expensive, even if it's Super 8. But is a better way:

www.analog.cafe/r/okto35-a-g...

OKTO35 uses 135 film with a larger gate, cheaper, and more versatile than Super 8 (nearly 16mm)!
November 11, 2025 at 5:37 PM
Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Do you know which Kodak film is now sold as Kodacolor 100?

It's not Pro Image 100, as the tests reveal:

www.analog.cafe/r/kodak-koda...

Very similar films, but the difference is there, and my brief survey of photographers and non-photographers supports that.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

@myfavouritelee.bsky.social's new essay, "My Favourite Way to Shoot Film," is a celebration of fun cameras like the Lomo LC-A and the gritty, sun-soaked images from Nottingham that make his photography feel worthwhile and carefree.

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Today's review is the Pentax MX — one of the smallest fully mechanical SLRs ever made:

The 79th monthly newsletter from the world of film photography is out!

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

I just sent a letter where I describe the intricacies of comparing colour-negative films THE RIGHT WAY and making a camera out of a pumpkin:

This is an extended email that has a little more info than usual. Happy Friday! 🎃🎞️📸

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

I've just updated my review of the smallest mechanical 135-format film camera, the Rollie 35 S:

www.analog.cafe/r/rollei-35s...

The Rollei 25 S also features a capable 𝒇2.8 Sonnar lens design that renders sharp images and silky-smooth bokeh. A very cool camera.
