Time for the tourists and hungry college kids returning for a home-cooked meal to make their final approach into San Diego …

I don’t write about writing very often - it feels a bit too preciously self indulgent, and a little too “inside baseball.” But there is something terrifying, at times, about a blank piece of paper … but (again) as I often say, “writers write.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love print … I type on actual paper … but the Sunday paper (and especially the one here in San Diego) has become little more than a delivery device for 10lbs of bird cage liner. Local journalism is important … wasteful sales flyers, are not.

Coffee is life … certainly mine.

The stack of paper is roughly 80%(?) of the poetry I’ve written in the past year-plus. Sometimes it seems like a lot, and other times it feels like far too little.

Without a doubt, my desire to write is more powerful than any other desire.

The sun is out, far away, and when the clouds separate just a little, slivers of warm sunlight carve through the damp grey.

We’re still very much in the middle of our yearly (if we’re lucky) brief rainy season; like Black Friday is to retail business, this period of rain is our one chance to fill reservoirs and nourish the hillsides.

It’s been almost a full year since I wrote this, and it feels increasingly relevant today.

Neoliberalism (economic libertarianism sans social liberalism) only moves one way.

The new MAGA being #BlueMAGA in #AmericaFirst hats is no coincidence. This is a bigger Rightward shift for mainline Dems than the border in '23-24.

Look at who among Dems welcomes MTG and holds her at arm's length.
It is truly remarkable how the modern republican party has moved from a party of limited government and moralism to a party of feudalism. Expiring health benefits will pass, but pardons for white collar criminals continue. It seems increasingly obvious that a modern aristocracy is being created 1/2

Our first night of this new fall/winter with temps in the 40s. Chilly enough to turn the heat on, when I limped out of bed to start the coffee that will hopefully bring me to life eventually.

Honestly, there’s really no point in taking pictures of the colors in the sunrise (or sunset for that matter). It’s impossible to digitally capture the true range of hues and the subtlety of color. Trust me; it was spectacular.
