Interesting idea I heard from the DWP advisor I spoke to; they suggested charging the £93 reduction to our houseguest.

Which would make the casual living arrangement an undisclosed sublet. Which is illegal.

Good system we have here.

The other is how the JSA reductions are calculated. They calculate it as if it's a monthly payment, which it isn't, so they reduce it by £40 more than I actually get per month. Fuck the DWP.

I recall getting into an argument with this transphobic leftist on twitter (back when it was that). About 1/3 of his posts were left wing criticisms of the then Tory government, the other 2/3s were transphobic arguments.
December 15, 2025 at 1:26 AM
Like your average Reform or Trump supporter will probably spend a lot of time talking about their racism. But they're also going to spend a decent chunk of time talking about hating trans people or why leftists are the devil or why wokeness ruined 40K for them. The obsessive transphobe less so.
December 15, 2025 at 1:23 AM
But to address the point, I think my friends analogy still holds water. You still do find these deeply obsessive types against trans rights. With racism for instance there tends to be a bit more diversity of ideas, they'll talk a lot about their racism but I think there's a tendency to other ideas.

I recall reading an old DAM essay about anarcha-feminism that had wretched outlooks on pornography. It took the stance of being anti-porn but made allowances for gay porn because it was "educational". It was trying to square the hole of being anti-porn but not anti-queer and doing a bad job.
December 15, 2025 at 1:14 AM
I think perhaps at the time it was slightly more apt. The enshittification of social media platforms in very recent history plays a huge factor.

But I think there's still a kernel of truth there. There was and remains a significant divide between a more 2nd wave feminism and more "modern" feminism.

I think where the analogy falls down is that they're financially supporting these mouthpieces like Rowling and Linehan. Bigoted lobbying groups are keeping these people floating above all the backlash they get.
December 12, 2025 at 11:09 PM
*in otherwise

And you can see how Linehan has changed. He has flipped his position on Palestine, for instance.
They'll flatter people for no other reason than finding a new mouthpiece to convert.

I think it's in part because it has so many liberals on the fence. It's pretty well established that it was considered a wedge issue to divide the lgbt community and the left. So encouraging and flattering this bigotry otherwise left wing people was essential to evangelical conservatives.

I had a friend once describe transphobia as the fentanyl of bigotries.
It is a kind of ravenous hatred that eventually consumes you. Other bigotry doesn't become someone's whole personality in the same fashion, like racism or homophobia.

Would you call Alba more of a nativist movement? I'm never sure if nativist is an appropriate term to be using.
December 11, 2025 at 3:01 PM
Well, the Alba party got its start from SNP deserters, so that doesn't seem such an unlikely notion (nuance to this, naturally, Salmond was more to the right of the party, i think). But yes, unionism is also a nationalist position, and certainly not immune to "nativism" (for want of a better term).

What's the post?

This from a guy whose praxis are all stunts that piss people off.
