Tragic that a judge was killed today in a courtroom in Albania. Heartfelt condolences to his family. For those of us following the state of the rule of law, this horrific act felt like it was only a matter of time — a stark reminder we must not look away.

Thank you so much for sharing the article Laurent and am so appreciative. The example that you cite, is very much how the EU rewards MS. It’s also in similar line with your thesis on the rule of law; it simply doesn’t enforce the legal and political tools. Lots to unpack for an academic piece.

OPINION: EU members must challenge the message they’re currently sending: that the EU isn’t serious about fighting corruption within its own walls, while it’s happy to take the moral high ground elsewhere.

"This is a major issue in the EU, and until now, it has repeatedly failed to introduce robust legislation to target the problem, let alone effectively enforce it."

I am delighted to publish my opinion article ✍🏼 for POLITICO Europe 📰 on the EU anti-corruption directive. It examines how the EU appears indifferent to combatting corruption within the bloc, while taking moral high ground in candidate states.

The arrogance and wishful thinking that a British premier would visit the country for the first time since the two countries established diplomatic ties, believing that this would lead to a migration deal, reflects poorly on diplomats and politicians who received this lesson in a very public way.
