Got my 2nd piece done for #ABLArtFest - this one is for #TheCrystalBallReveals! This started out fun and ended up slightly ominous… what with the approaching rain clouds and all.

Child with black pigtails and a green hoodie gazes into a crystal ball sitting on a brown wooden chair. A friendly spider is perched on top of the crystal ball. Inside the crystal ball is a treehouse with a same size spider web built next to it and a tiny image of the kid and the spider waving at each other. In the top of the crystal ball are approaching rain clouds. All of the image is rendered in cut paper.

Fall Festivities, ArtFest 2025! #ablartfest @andreabrownlit.bsky.social
Moose eat fermented apples fallen from apple trees in peoples gardens. The apples contain alcohol and the moose get tipsy from eating them. So watch out for the moose swaggering and swaying around like some drunken sailor. 😄🍎

📦Unboxing my newest picture book GRAY SQUIRREL LOSES IT with my kiddo! There were some bumps along the way, like the cat food dispenser sounding off, but we pressed on and now I’m inclined to make this a tradition. What do you think—should we keep unboxing together?

THE CRYSTAL BALL REVEALS…

That it’s week 2 of #ablartfest sponsored by @andreabrownlit.bsky.social

#ablartfest #ABLArtfest2025
Fortune teller looks into crystal ball and makes 5 Fortunate Forecasts: SWEET THINGS are coming your way, don’t MASK yourself, a lot of DOORS will open for you, TRICKS OR TREATS - the answer is hazy, and no matter what anyone says - do NOT SMELL ANY FEET.

Week 2: The Crystal Ball Reveals... 🔮🔮🔮

In a dimly lit room: a girl is startled standing near a crystal ball and candles on a table. The crystal ball appears to be breaking and lighting up it's surroundings. A plume of a smoke like form is emerging from the crystal ball. You can make out distorted and pained faces in the smoke.

We loved seeing everyone's fall festivities last week (the way that it overlapped with some of your #kidlitpostcards was great! 👌).

And if you missed last week, it's never too late participate in #ABLArtFest! You can even combine prompts if you're feeling inspired. Just have fun! 🍂🔮

My 1st piece for #ABLArtFest - the prompt was #fallfestivities!

I adore the sneaky dragon, the determined bunny, and the trying-ever-so-hard robot…. But the mad scientist and dog for sure “steal” the scene (see what I did there?!).

#kidlitart #illustration #cutpaper @andreabrownlit.bsky.social
Four kids are trying to eat donuts hanging on strings without using their hands. The first one is a curly redheaded white kid dressed as a purple dragon and is cheating- using their hands to hold the donut. The second is a south Asian kid with straight black hair in a large pink bunny suit. The third is Black kid with an Afro and a hair pick, dressed up as a mad scientist - his donut has been stolen by a white dog. The dog is running away with the donut. The fourth kid is a smaller white kid dressed as a robot who has not gotten any donuts yet. There’s a large tree with fall leaves and a stone wall in the background.

#RevisionTip Dreaming--or waking up from a dream--is passive, and the moment can feel flat to the reader.

If the dream is important, try revising it as a scene that happens in real time on the page. It will give your character agency and push the drama forward in an exciting way. #revising

I love reading queries and getting the chance to see into the worlds of many creators, whose perspectives are so very different from my own.

I wish I could respond to you all individually, as I have many thoughts. I don't have time, but please know I appreciate your work and the chance to read it!

Happy #KidLitArtPostcard day!

I write and illustrate board books, picture books, readers, and comics. I love quirky characters and projects that let me show a range of emotions.
