That time in 2021 when I went motor-paragliding with accordion Sasha (who can simultaneously steer and talk and hold a selfie stick).

Offspring doing a sketch of a Final Fantasy XIV character, but rendered Animal Crossing–style.

I pet Area Dog and ask, “Who’s a good boy?” He looks away, as we both recall that *someone* covered in fur kept hearing the snowplows last night and waking me up to warn of imminent apocalypse.

Looks like Skeletor now hates Black Santas *and* whistles.

Three cheers for Philip Glass, whose Solo Piano record has been my boon companion for decades whenever I'm painting. (I notice that Glass didn't use the current administration's name for the center in his letter.)

Went to my profile and found this bar of "Similar accounts," which look more like the kind of thing people might be paying to promote than anyone who has something in common with me.

Yes! I begged for us to go there, even though it wasn't critical to our itinerary. Here's a photo of Nansen and Johansen's ditch. When they spent the winter there, the rocks were arranged not in the middle but like a walled fort, with the log on top, supporting the hides that served as a roof.

Three of us hiked over that long ridge (which looks like a skinny mountain in the photo), and then my friend Accordion Sasha went paragliding off one of the high slopes. Here's a photo I took of him from the ground that day.

Writing tonight about our 2021 expedition to Franz Josef Land. Here's a cellphone photo from one of our landings. The most surreal landscape I've ever encountered. My poor phone camera didn't have the slightest idea how to record it.

Tonight’s fortune.

Went to the post office and found they’d memorialized my teen years in stamp form. Going to write you all letters now instead of posting here.

Ryan kindly quoted me for this look at consequential events from Trump's first year back in office. Here's what I said, but it's worth clicking his link and hearing from everyone who contributed...

One of offspring’s Christmas presents from me.

Au Pied de Cochon in DC! Lowbrow French fare, open almost 24/7, staffed by Bolivians who turned out to be related to one of my friends in college. Crêpes Morvandelle were my favorite.

The Friday Degenerate Art post is somewhat delayed by a small (literally) crisis. Pour one out tonight for Coco the Magnificent, who liked company but loathed cuddles. If she could have spoken, she would've told everyone to fuck off. Here's hoping there's broccoli in guinea pig Valhalla.

Stopped in at an Arlington anti-ICE demonstration on my way into DC. Speakers were a little hard to hear, but the crowd was enthusiastic.

So this, but she's 80 and in a nursing home.

Hello from the bunny on my mom’s dementia ward, which is getting a lot of love today.

Area Guinea Pig is on antibiotics post-op, and the upset stomach from them has put her off eating. But guinea pigs have to have a steady diet, because it’s easy for their digestive system to shut down and not start up again. So now we have to swaddle her and feed her with an oral syringe. Poor baby.

Just finished eating the New Year’s Day big community meal the neighbors generously put on each year. They hosted 72 people. Here’s the menu (which doubles as a ballot to decide which one dish from each category returns in 2027).
