I spent 4 terms in local gov focused on climate action, reconciliation, social justice & a stronger democracy. I left in 2018 to figure out why Trump got elected. Now I teach power literacy & help courageous people take action on bold, progressive ideas.
It was always 10 pm. A unanimous vote of council could extend past 10 pm.

Vancouver’s climate leadership exists because people across the political spectrum fought for it, putting planet before partisanship. Let’s do that again. 🌿

If you’re able, please speak up today.

📬 Write to council — especially Councillors Dominato and Meiszner, who seem less tied to the mayor’s anti-climate agenda.

🎤 You can also sign up to speak directly to Council until 5 pm today. vancouver.ca/your-governm...

Will speaking out help? Hard to say — this council has made it harder for residents to participate in decisions, and it’s easy to feel cynical about how much they’re listening. But staying silent definitely won’t help. 📢

Now Mayor Sim says cuts are about “austerity”…but is proposing major police budget increases after 3 straight years of steep property tax hikes. 🤔💸🚓

And guess what?
Climate action in Vancouver has NEVER been partisan. 🏛️🫱🏼‍🫲🏽
NPA, COPE, Vision, OneCity, Greens, independents — all helped build this legacy.

Local governments control over 50% of emissions sources in Canada. What Vancouver does matters — here and worldwide. When federal governments stalled climate action (remember the Harper era?), cities like Vancouver kept pushing forward — helping build momentum toward the Paris Agreement. 🔥➡️✍️🇫🇷
