That is great, Ritinha! Thanks!

Dear ecologists 🌎
Which journals in ecology (or related fields) offer editor mentoring programs? I know about Journal of Applied Ecology, ESA Editorial Fellow, and ASLO Editorial Fellow. Any others that early-career researchers should track for future calls?

Finished off this year's conference season at #BESMacro2025. What an amazing experience! Great talks, incredible people, and plenty of networking opportunities. If you're into macroecology and get the chance, don't miss it next year!

I'll also be presenting a poster on July 8th, sharing results from our collaborative study with PGSISCO (@ufpr.bsky.social‬) on the climate-driven shifts in the distribution of the harmful microalga 𝘖𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘴 cf. 𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘢.

Continuing the conference season, I'm in Bodø 🇳🇴 for the 58th European Marine Biology Symposium #EMBS2025.

If you're into large-scale marine diversity patterns, come say hi! 😊

Had a great time at the @lifewatcheric.bsky.social #BEeS2025 conference! It was a pleasure to present the L.A.N.A. framework and receive such positive feedback. Looking forward to sharing more details officially soon.

Thanks to everyone involved in making it happen!

Last week I visited the Center for Marine Studies (UFPR), Brazil 🇧🇷, to share recent works on marine LDG, sampling bias and some ongoing projects.

It was so nice to return to this place full of good memories and catch up with old friends 😁.

A fun fact about Torres (RS): These cliffs are made of basalt from the Serra Geral Group, ancient lava flows that covered parts of South America and Africa when Gondwana began to break apart.
A man wearing sunglasses stands in front of a dark rocky cliff touching the sea, under a clear blue sky.

Heading south: sampling in Torres (RS), where the last rocky shores of Brazil’s southern coast can be seen. From there, it’s hundreds of kilometres of almost continuous sandy beach all the way to Uruguay.
🇧🇷🏖️🇺🇾

Also note the strong algal bloom in the water.
Two hands holding a large syringe filled with beach sediment, with a calm sea in the background. A vegetated cliff and light blue sky are visible behind. Tall rocky formation with vegetation on top, surrounded by light-colored sandy beach and calm sea. Low vegetation in the foreground and a blue sky with some clouds. A vast, empty beach with tire tracks on the sand. Lifeguard towers can be seen in the distance, aligned along the coast. The sky is clear and blue. View of a cliff covered with green vegetation, with waves breaking below. The seawater near the shore appears brownish, due to an algal bloom. Clear blue sky in the background.

Quick stop in Laguna (SC), my hometown, to watch the traditional mullet fishing done with the help of local bottlenose dolphins.
Four fishers stand waist-deep in the water, facing a bottlenose dolphin in the distance, with a green hillside and houses in the background. A group of fishers spread out in shallow coastal waters, standing waist-deep, with a green hillside and houses in the background. Two are casting nets while others wait.

Fieldwork is underway in southern Brazil, where I'm sampling eDNA with @marciakurtz.bsky.social for the 𝐺𝑙𝑜𝑏𝑎𝑙 𝑆𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑦 𝐵𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑀𝑒𝑖𝑜𝑓𝑎𝑢𝑛𝑎 𝐷𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑦 survey, an international effort led by @jnmscience.bsky.social.
🌎🏖️🧬

During the first week, we worked along the stunning Santa Catarina coast.
Sandy beach with a forested hill in the background under a clear blue sky. Golden sunrise over the ocean, casting a warm glow across the water and wet sand. A small island is visible in the distance on the horizon. Man collecting sediment with a syringe in the intertidal zone of a sandy beach, with a rocky island in the background. Hand holding a Falcon tube in the foreground, with a woman collecting a sediment sample on a sandy beach in the blurred background.

If you're interested in developing a proposal to come and work here in Sheffield on any aspect of marine biodiversity data science or macroecology, I'm happy to discuss. @andremenegotto.bsky.social is living proof that we have had some success with this scheme!

Exciting first day of #IODC3 with many great presentations!

Some tools showcased include the Beacon data lake beacon.maris.nl and the OBIS sdm dashboard shiny.obis.org/distmaps.

Also, an important message from Erika Cadavid on strengthening the @obis.org Network in Latin America and the Caribbean.
