A Pine Ladybird being dwarfed between two f. spectabilis Harlequin Ladybirds, found today in an oak tree (there were lots of Larches & Yews around too) in north Shropshire. Similar but also rather different!

A Mottled Shieldbug (Rhaphigaster nebulosa) sitting on a shed door in Upshire, Essex last week. I am just starting to see a few on my local patch now as they continue to spread to new areas. #EssexWildlife #UKBugs

Not a good shot by any means, but I just love the refraction of the hairs on this Dot Ladybird (Stethorus pusillus) making all colours of the rainbow, and giving little star bursts too! At lunchtime today in Shropshire #VC40Ladybirds #MicroLadybird

Many of the Rhyzobius lophanthae (Bristly LB) I've been finding this year have been quite small! Is it due to the large numbers of them, meaning less food to go round? Here's one with Nephus quadrimaculatus (Ivy LB) & R. chrysomeloides (Arboreal LB) last week. #VC40Ladybirds #MicroLadybird

A careful search of Town Mead, Waltham Abbey produced three nymphs and 12 adult Striped Shieldbugs (Graphosoma italicum) in a large stand of Hemlock today. The best count of the year on this site, the warm sunshine encouraging them out to bask. #EssexWildlife #UKBugs

This western conifer seed bug? landed on the kitchen window a few hours after the neighbour cut down a pine tree. Relative newcomer to UK I think? Here in Sheffield.

Surprised to find a Spruce Cone Bug (Gastrodes abietum) sitting on my front door in Waltham Abbey a few days ago. Initially assumed it was the commoner Pine Cone Bug (G. grossipes) but pale sides to front of pronotum and first antennal segment not extending beyond head. #EssexWildlife #UKBugs
