When is a fine on a company not a fine?

When it is levied on England's water companies with nearly 1,200 criminal convictions.

Headline grabbing fines are announced but not collected for years, not even paid.

No pressure on water companies to obey laws.

Water companies indulged by govt. Why?
Public ownership of water is the only way to deliver security, efficiency, investment and value for money
37 years of privatisation has been a disaster

These are the people he is selling the UK off to.

Foreign billionaires.

Here’s the lesson of the Andy Burnham saga: Labour needs a new leader.

Even Toynbee is abandoning Starmer

Need policies not cults.
Pledges that mean something.
Inclusivity not authoritarianism.
Redistribution, not trickle-down.
Public ownership of essentials.
Public welfare over corporate welfare.

Keir Starmer’s dismal decision to block the Greater Manchester mayor has bought him time, but it won’t change his fate, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

And you can help.

I spoke at an event this week where the room voted almost unanimously that MPs & Lords must be covered by the new offence of Misleading the Public

Imagine if this went though

And this is where we need your help…

Farage lied when he said he was too ill to appear for the BBC interview on Sunday.
The Heartland Institute, whose party he attended instead, doesn't believe in tobacco harms, climate change and seeks the dismantling of the NHS.

This chart by @nathanielbullard.com is one reason data centers are driving up our electricity prices. Tech companies usually build data centers close to cities, where accommodating their GW-scale power demand entails costly reinforcement of wires or transformers. Utilities pass those costs on to us.

UK Govt is concerned about waste crime.

England's water companies are leaders, dump raw sewage in rivers, lakes & seas.

They have nearly 1,200 criminal convictions but no director is fined, prosecuted or disqualified.

Why is that so?

What do you make of the Minister's reply?

Awaiting the next crash.

Capital requirements for UK banks to be lowered.

Safety buffers reduced as govt appeases the finance lobby.

Practical effect will be higher dividends, rather than investment in the real economy.

Public purse will bailout banks. Profits privatised, losses see socialised.
The Bank of England’s capital mistake?
On 2 December 2025, the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee announced it would be lowering the capital requirement for UK banks. This column argues that higher macro-financial risk and sharply reduced fiscal capacity point to a need for higher rather than lower bank capital requirements. The most likely practical effect of this weakening of resilience will be higher payouts to bank shareholders, rather than increased lending to the real economy.
