I wouldn't be surprised if the EU wanted to see PR adopted in UK as a precondition to rejoin.

Or at least wait until the Tories are willing to say Brexit was a mistake.

That way a political swing wouldn't necessarily put Brexiters back in power.

They may not make that explicit though.

If Starmer goes, and McSweeney with him, there would be an opportunity for a rethink.

The May elections could be a wakeup call.

Is it?

I think liberal refugee reforms (safe routes, allowing claimants to work) could reduce the support for Farage, and so could highlighting his historic racism.

I think that's overly pessimistic.

Polling has left me the impression that about half those intending to vote Reform are authoritarian nationalists.

The other half don't like the spectacle of small boats, feel border control has broken down, but not overtly racist, and could be reachable.

There is also the financial challenge of investor risk-taking and market bubbles, which is also not unique to AI.

VCs aren't superhumans, they're as susceptible to biases as everyone else, including FOMO (fear of missing out).

These techniques make fakery much easier, particularly at scale, but I regard that as a quantitive rather than qualitive difference.

Yes, update regulation as technology changes.

But "regulate AI" is meaningless.

Don't leave a loophole for Photoshop.

There are serious ethical implications of the techniques currently getting hyped (LLMs, diffusion models, maybe GANs):

Plagiarism, misselling, misinformation, harassment, employment.

I don't think they are unique to AI, or even IT, as demonstrated here by Nikolai Yezhov.

I'm trying to understand this debate as someone with no economics background. I am getting the impression that the ideas within MMT are either:

1. mainstream
2. snakeoil

Is there anything in between? Something not widely accepted, but worthy of further research?

Ireland recently elected as President someone who said NATO was "warmongering" before the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"Nato has played a despicable role in moving forward to the border and engaging in warmongering. Ireland has been hypocritical on many levels"

I do not think it credible that Ireland is looking for an excuse to go to war.
