Finally got my Raspberry Pis sorted!

I’ve got two piHoles running in tandem to block popup and banner ads on our home network; and a dedicated media server!

…and as it turns out, the media server makes it thick enough to double as a bonus shelf, so all my characters’ minis will now live here!

The approach right now is *fantasy Miocene* because Orcs, Humans, and Halflings also exist in the setting’s present-day; and would have historically filled similar niches throughout their evolutionary histories.

…and because they have similar body plans and types, there’s probably a common ancestor

- Vaesen, the Alien RPG, and Old Gods of Appalachia (also a great podcast!) are excellent horror-themed games. (I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention the OG, Call of Cthulhu here)
- Unity is a solid game and has some of my favorite art (it’s a major point of reference for art direction for my RPG)

It worked surprisingly well! It thickened the glue up into a sorta-putty, filled in the gaps on the terrain, and added in a bit of sandy texture.

It also smelled *really* good.

No one at the table noticed except our dog, who I had to actively work to keep from eating the portal to the abyss.

When I was building some terrain a while back and short on cash, I made a sorta similar pivot.

The model I was working with had some large gaps that needed filled - it had been peeling up, just a mess of print failure.

So I mixed some hot chocolate mix into my Elmer’s glue to make a thick paste.

The Draw Steel Ajax Edition is far and away the coolest RPG book set I’ve got.

This is going to get displayed *prominently* on my shelves for all to see!

MCDM spared no expense!
The Draw Steel RPG’s special edition box set: The Ajax Edition. The box itself is center stage: Black with textured black filigree, and a badass sword in the middle. The sword catches the light and shines along its facets. To either of its sides are the GM’s screen (left) and the box that holds both core rulebooks (right). The Director’s Screen is black with golden artwork featuring Ajax the Invincible, the Iron Saint, and the main villain of Draw Steel. To quote MCDM’s ‘The Chain of Acheron’ campaign - “he’s obviously a weiner” (but he’s a very cool looking weiner). The library box for the Core Rulebooks is reflective, metallic gold, and features a white crest in its center. Just beneath the box, obscuring the tip of the sword is a small black box with ornate gold printing. In here is the official miniature for Ajax! It requires assembly and painting. Open in front of the box set is the Draw Steel: Heroes book, flipped to the pages introducing the Elementalist Class. On the left is a beautiful mage, dressed in ornate clothing commanding the power of a black hole (my favorite art in the whole rulebook). The pages on the right are introductory text and class mechanics. Atop the right-side pages are the Ajax special edition Djor-dice; two 20-sided d10s, and one 6-sided d3; all in a green-and-black marbling with golden painted numbers. Beneath the Heroes book is a cloth map of Vasloria - the fantasy-medieval-Europe part of the Orden campaign setting. The map shows the locations of major points across the continent in great detail. The map was drawn by Kyle Latino (MapCrow). To quote my girlfriend: “We could frame this!” (And we just might!) Finally, atop the map, is a letter of thanks from MCDM, written in the voice and character of Ajax. Placed atop the letter, where the wax seal usually is, is a metal Coin of Command - a magical artifact that gives command over and empowers Ajax’s soldiers (and signifies having taken your turn in initiative). Draw Steel!

(And the humor is not lost on me that I unintentionally stumbled into using these niche mechanics to give flavorful abilities to one of my personal go-to fantasy ancestries).
A quick nested bullet point diagram discussing ways to mechanically give an ancestry with a history of collecting stories and dreams a way to *actually do* that, instead of just having it be cool flavor text. So, apparently I messed up the formatting for the link there, and am working to get it sorted. Nevertheless, here is the recipe, attached in image-form (and alt text).
Chicken Alfredo Pasta with Pearl Onions Made this tonight, and I feel very confident on saying it’s the best alfredo pasta I’ve had. I hope you all enjoy! This recipe is made up of three parts. The base Alfredo sauce, the creamy pearl onions, and the baked chicken breast. The following is the ingredient list for the full dish; each individual part will have its own ingredient list as a subset of this list. Full Recipe Ingredients • ⁠16oz Pasta of your choice (fettuccini is traditional, I used rigatoni) • ⁠1x 14oz package of frozen pearl onions • ⁠1x ~10-12oz package of frozen broccoli • ⁠~1 & 1/2 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts • ⁠1 & 1/2 cups 2% milk • ⁠2 cups heavy whipping cream • ⁠2/3 cup chicken broth • ⁠7 Tbsp butter • ⁠7 Tbsp flour • ⁠1 & 5/6 cup parmesan cheese • ⁠3 Teaspoons minced garlic • ⁠1/4 Teaspoon nutmeg • ⁠2 Tbsp light brown sugar • ⁠2 Teaspoons italian seasoning • ⁠2 Teaspoons smoked paprika • ⁠1 Teaspoon garlic powder • ⁠1 Teaspoon dried minced onion, or onion powder (your choice - I prefer minced onion) • ⁠4 Tbsp chopped parsley • ⁠1/3 cup mayonnaise • ⁠A large splash (~3 Tbsp) lemon juice • ⁠2 Teaspoons and a dash of salt • ⁠1/2 Teaspoon and a dash of pepper Alfredo Sauce This portion of the recipe is adapted from the “Reduced Fat Alfredo Sauce” recipe found on food.com. Ingredients: • ⁠1 & 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream • ⁠1 & 1/2 cups 2% milk • ⁠4 & 1/2 Tbsp butter • ⁠4 & 1/2 Tbsp flour • ⁠1 & 1/3 cup parmesan cheese • ⁠3 Teaspoons minced garlic (feel free to add more to taste) • ⁠A dash of pepper Instructions: ⁠Melt butter in saucepan on stovetop at a medium heat. ⁠Gradually whisk in flour to create a yellow paste. ⁠Gradually add the milk and cream, whisking to incorporate until no lumps are present. ⁠Continue to whisk until the liquid is hot, usually 3-5 minutes. The more you reduce here, the thicker the sauce will be. ⁠Gradually add in the Parmesan cheese (recommended 1/3 cup increments), stirring until well-blended. ⁠Add the minced garlic and pepper, and stir to incorporate. Creamy Pearl Onions This portion of the recipe is adapted from the “Classic Creamed Pearl Onions” recipe found on 12tomatoes.com. Ingredients: • ⁠1x 14oz package of frozen pearl onions • ⁠1x ~10-12oz package of frozen broccoli • ⁠2 & 1/2 Tbsp butter • ⁠2 & 1/2 Tbsp flour • ⁠2/3 cup chicken broth • ⁠1/2 cup heavy whipping cream • ⁠1/2 cup parmesan cheese • ⁠1/4 Teaspoon nutmeg Instructions: ⁠Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease a ~8x8 inch baking dish. ⁠Bring a large pot of water to boil. Once boiling, add the frozen onions and broccoli and simmer for 5-8 minutes, or until tender. ⁠Melt butter in saucepan on stovetop at a medium heat. ⁠Gradually whisk in flour to create a yellow paste. ⁠Gradually add the heavy whipping cream, whisking to incorporate until no lumps are present. ⁠Once all the heavy whipping cream is incorporated, sprinkle the nutmeg over the sauce, and stir to incorporate. ⁠Gradually add in 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese, stirring until well-blended. ⁠Strain the onions and broccoli, and add to the saucepan, stirring until the vegetables are covered in sauce. ⁠Transfer to contents of the saucepan to your baking dish, and top with 1/4 cup of Parmesan Cheese. ⁠Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top begins to brown. If you’d want, adding a small can of Mushroom pieces & stems to the mixture of pearled onions and broccoli would be a welcome addition. I didn’t include them in this recipe, as sadly, my girlfriend isn’t a fan of mushrooms. Baked Chicken Breast This portion of the recipe is adapted from Sarah Welch’s “Baked Chicken Breast” recipe found on dinneratthezoo.com. Ingredients: • ⁠~1 & 1/2 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts • ⁠2 Tbsp light brown sugar • ⁠2 Teaspoons salt • ⁠2 Teaspoons italian seasoning • ⁠2 Teaspoons smoked paprika • ⁠1 Teaspoon garlic powder • ⁠1 Teaspoon dried minced onion, or onion powder (your choice - I prefer minced onion) • ⁠1/2 Teaspoon Pepper • ⁠4 Tbsp chopped parsley • ⁠1/3 cup mayonnaise • ⁠A large splash (~3 Tbsp) lemon juice Instructions: ⁠Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. ⁠Dice the chicken breast into roughly 1/2-3/4 inch cubes. ⁠In a ~8x8 inch, mix the brown sugar, salt, italian seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, minced onion (or onion powder), pepper, parsley, mayonnaise, and lemon juice. ⁠Mix the chicken cubes with the seasoning mixture in the baking dish, stirring until the chicken is covered. ⁠Bake the chicken mixture for 20-30 minutes, or until an inserted thermometer registers at least 165 degrees. Bringing it All Together Ingredients: • ⁠16oz pasta Instructions: ⁠Bring a large pot of water to boil. Once boiling, add the pasta and cook until tender. ⁠Once tender, strain the pasta and return it to the pot. ⁠Cover the pasta with the Alfredo Sauce made in section 1. ⁠Fold in the Creamy Pearl Onions and Baked Chicken Breast made in sections 2 and 3. Use a spatula to get everything out of their respective baking dishes. ⁠Serve and enjoy!

Homemade enchiladas for dinner tonight!

Finally got my code to work to generate the percent chances of rolling a Target Number of 6s on Xd6 rolls for a #TTRPG I'm working on!

It only took 8 spreadsheets of calculations and finding a geneticist's code for counting pattern instances within a string hidden within the Google Support Forums!

I can only imagine this is a common sight for all my fellow #TTRPG designers and fantasy worldbuilders - all the custom words and language you use ending up throwing every error in the book at you… and the pure bliss of simply turning them all off.

Why is #Underkeeper Playtest Packet 2 taking so long? It's been over a year!

Yeah...

- the game was completely overhauled from a d20 fantasy game to a custom 2d12 system.
- the layout is getting a massive upgrade
- packet 2 is going to have a lot more material than packet 1.

Took apart my old laptop today. The hinge broke several times over its lifespan, and ended up causing the display to break and die… it really wasn’t fixable by me then (before I got my current computer).

I’m putting it back together for better transcodes as my new media server.
