Ski racing - gate inspector. I find it hard to watch racing without (a) wanting to go through the gates and (b) without the mad clanging of cowbells!!! My European roots are confused by the silence!

Well at least I achieved omelette/frittata kinda deal today with left over potatoes, mushrooms, and polish kielbasa, little bit of Parmesan, some chili flakes. It was very excellent. I was very hungry.

We had a very very traditional Serbian Christmas meal - nachos and tacos at Sneaky Dees! And kid 2 went nuts for all the graffiti for photographs. Great to see!

Last day of 2025, shinny with Kid 2, first day of 2026 night skiing with Kid 1. Good times!!
(Though I knew I was getting sick when I went skiing and today feel like every joint in my body aches and shivers. Grrr. It was worth it though!)

Had a phenomenal 5 days in Switzerland in October. Grimmselpass was super gorgeous but highlight by far was Meiringen up to Grosse Scheidegg, empty winding road, towering peaks and glaciers, perfect weather and getting through a 2-3km segment of 15-20% felt like a victory! Pics attached…

Freaking fantastic winter day today - and very grateful that Kid 2’s hockey tournament is tomorrow and not today, and fingers crossed the QEW gets cleared and salted by then!!

Super meeting in EMBL on spatial biology preceded by awesome visit to Lausanne and an epic ride through the Swiss alps. Grosse Scheidegg ascent on a perfect day will stay with me a long time.

Highlight - a 40k walk with the family in the Cairngorms.
Biggest surprise - finding that the pope is a hopeful and progressive force for good right now. As an avowed atheist I found this weirdly inspiring and encouraging. Unity across the spectrum.
