I see that Doug Ford thinks that speed bumps (freaking idiotic car-damaging speed bumps!!) are an alternative to speed cameras:
1. Speed bumps affect emergency vehicles
2. Law abiders and law breakers are both affected by them
They’re absolutely idiotic - but then so is Ford so I guess there’s that.

If we only had corruption and bribery cameras, Ford would be done….

Wonderful thinker and communicator. I remember a seminar at Gurdon where (in my memory at least!) he gave the entire thing with only a handful of simple slides, and his narrative of what the elegant experiments showed was so lucid and compelling. Amazing career and such a warm generous person.

Well done. You can’t force her to answer, but you can draw attention to her repeated refusal and let anyone with more than two neurons draw their own conclusions.

"This is supposed to be an oversight hearing" -- Schiff helpfully ticks through all of the incriminating questions -- and there are many of them -- that Bondi refused to answer during today's hearing

Can’t we just sit still and have the animals in the gondolas? It’d be so much more relaxing. Could grab a beer and watch the tigers ride by.

It sounds like a glass of good wine but you throw in a triple vodka and a triple whisky and a bag of gummies because MOAR.

It. Doesn’t. Make. It. Better.

I have just learned about the existence of a cake shake and ffs America what is with you??!

Hey I’m pretty freaking excited for him to let in 5 Leafs goals on opening night WOOHOO!!

Just said “arigato gosaimasu” to the person giving me a beer in Zurich. So many train tracks in the brain and when travel loosens the rails, the consciousness train freaking jumps everywhere.

Absolute rollercoaster week. Today I’m restored to a sense of joy and wonder that I get to do this: talk to incredible scientists, plan to build amazing projects together, and (hey I have an ego!) be delighted to see people excited by the supercool work my group has done. I’m a lucky man.

I wonder how often Robert Jenrick wanders arounds the neighbourhood of his Manor House in Eye, Hertfordshire and thinks to himself how terrible it is because all you see is white faces and he mourns the lack of racial integration? Not much. So why comment on the lack of white faces elsewhere?

These all apply to Stalin, Mao, Idi Amin.

When Doug Ford became Premier, his personal wealth was <$5M, all inherited from his daddy. Somehow, although he says he works 24/7, this has risen almost 10-fold since he became Premier. It is beyond outrageous that journalists and politicians don’t question him on this every single day.

You want to explain why you’re running a photo from the 1992 LA riots without caption or context in a way that doesn’t make you a collaborator with the administration?

When I lived in Ireland, artists didn't pay any income tax.

If you're just starting out as an artist in Germany, the government buys some of your work as an investment (you never know who becomes valuable), and to help you get up on your feet.

For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

By embracing Brexit for party advantage, the Conservative and Unionist party both destroyed itself and, in time, dismantled the union.

A political morality tale, a fable of hard folly.

It may have escaped your attention, but the Belgian energy system has quietly passed an important test. During the weekend of 4-5 October 2025, our consumption was almost entirely covered by renewable energy. And yet the system ticked like a Swiss watch. /

I can see AI solutions replacing a vast swathe of white collar jobs. I cannot really see it having much of an impact on labour in most industries. Robotics may - look at docks for example or mining. But AI? I don’t see how, but may just not get it properly!
andyfraser.bsky.social
It’s like when people said they were going to get rich off NFTs but national scale. I mean sure AI is better than that…but I have still yet to hear anything even vaguely approaching a sane business plan for it. Every year it’s just “give us 5x more cash”. Isn’t that…I dunno…a bit concerning?

"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."
America is now one big bet on AI
It’s seen as the magic fix for every threat to the US economy
