Opinion Science is back from its summer break, and I'm happy to share this conversation with @dbroockman.bsky.social.

We discuss why it’s so hard to predict which messages will work + the gap between political insiders’ instincts and what actually resonates with the public. (Links in comment)

I've got to say that I'm loving Underwood's branding: "The Machine You Will Eventually Buy."

It feels like very snarky social media messaging except in the very early 1900s.

It’s here! Such a thrill to hold the book in my hands: “The Communicating Scientist” with my illustrations inside. It’s the kind of book I wish I had when I was a PhD student, and I’m glad to have it as a reference as a communications professional #SciComm 🧪

It's to the point where I'm kind of excited when a student's answer isn't perfect because it means they probably actually tried to answer the question themselves instead of leaning on AI.

Why does wealth inequality matter to you? Because when anyone has more money than they can spend on staples, and even on luxuries, they have to buy assets. Stocks, real estate, and higher education for their children. We've lived with massive inflation in these three categories for decades.

Do you know which typewriter face this is? I just started getting curious about the typewriter-letterpress mashups that came out of foundries.

Hey! Public radio is defunded but not defeated. An NPR friend told me that since the defunding, the public has been stepping up in huge numbers. We can make public media even stronger and better. If you have ever benefitted from my work please give to a local station - we need them adoptastation.org

Hear from people who applied the science to government in the US, UK, and beyond.

Are you teaching behavioral economics this semester?

Just a reminder that I produced a 5-episode podcast series with Behavioral Grooves on the origins, growth, and future of behavioral economics.

AND we developed some helpful note-taking and discussion guides for use in the classroom...
