I think I read that somewhere as well, but now it’s behind a paywall.

“Extra frisson” could be one of the settings.

Haha! Either that or the stunt doubles they brought in for the close-ups were different heights.

Those Blu-ray FX enhancements are more drastic than I first realised.

“The pillows are all down!”

“Then what’s the problem?”

That could be another option.

“Use a matte painting of the missing attendees.”

“Wouldn’t that mean they looked like they were all static and unmoving?”

“Why would that be a problem?”

It is the Tory party conference, though. They remember the 1980s because they’re still living there.

Even we most devoted #DoctorWho aficionados, who know existing novelisations, transcripts, iPlayer, archives, will find surprise and novelty in the book.

I had terrific fun editing it. Steve and Paul have done a marvellous job, and Paul’s distinctive accompanying illustrations are a joy, too.

… while for fan enthusiasts, there’s an additional frisson of pleasure and recognition in recalling the source material.

As a decades-long #DoctorWho devotee, I remind myself that newer fans are coming to these stories for the first time — and approaches like this can be an appealing entry point.

The retellings adopt a “1,001 Nights” approach; like the best of the novelisations, they have a distinctive, accessible prose style all ages can enjoy, sprinkled with vocabulary that amuses and surprises.

Stories can be read and enjoyed with no prior knowledge of #DoctorWho episodes they allude to…

Not traditional “novelisation” versions; each of 22 tales offers unexpected, delightful new insights and perspectives on moments and characters from the show.

Ha! Brilliant.

“The results of my experiment indicate that they are puny beings with little resistance to physical stress, and are dependent on starchy tuberous organic intake for their energy supply.”
