Pity the Nation

Pity the nation whose people are sheep
And whose shepherds mislead them

Pity the nation whose leaders are liars
Whose sages are silenced
And whose bigots haunt the airwaves ...

The whole of the poem in the screenshots.
Poem "Pity the Nation" divided into two screen shots:
Pity the nation whose people are sheep
And whose shepherds mislead them

Pity the nation whose leaders are liars
Whose sages are silenced
And whose bigots haunt the airwaves

Pity the nation that raises not its voice
Except to praise conquerors
And acclaim the bully as hero
And aims to rule the world
By force and by torture

Pity the nation that knows
No other language but its own
And no other culture but its own

Pity the nation whose breath is money
And sleeps the sleep of the too well fed

Pity the nation oh pity the people
who allow their rights to erode
and their freedoms to be washed away

My country, tears of thee
Sweet land of liberty! Entire poem in alt text of first picture.

These ICE agents are out of control in Chicago. This one’s aiming a loaded weapon at a woman just for filming him as he hunts immigrants in broad daylight. This shit is beyond fucked up—and it’s only a matter of time before one of these losers pulls the trigger.

What, no sexual assault accusations? Trump is slipping.

"Notably, he faced accusations of having paid for two former girlfriends' abortions while publicly advocating for a national ban on the procedure. Despite these challenges and a lack of political experience Walker received strong support from Trump and other Republican figures."

"A war from within" ????

The President of the United States is openly talking about waging war against US cities because he doesn't like their mayors and governors.

This is how a dictator talks.

I feel an odd admiration for MTG. She's a white supremacist, a homophobe, a transphobe, an Islamaphobe.

But to be fair, she's utterly rejected the GOP's long history of dog whistles, subtext, and denials. She's honest about what she is.

Hate is hate, but honest open hate repels more people. Win.

I too am keen to "restore trust in news" by turning a major broadcast network into a 24/7 slurry of right wing culture war propaganda and engagement trolling

Bari Weiss introduced herself to CBS News staff today on the network's 9AM call, saying she wants to "win," which requires restoring trust to CBS. She also said she was excited for staff to get to know the Free Press, and ended her remarks by saying: "Let's do the fucking news."

Dear god. We're being ruled by Chauncey Gardiner's evil twin.

Trump: "We call them the water drugs. The drugs that come in through water. They're not coming. There are no boats anymore. Frankly, there are no fishing boats. There are no boats out there period, if you want to know the truth. Does anybody go fishing anymore?"

Took a weekend at the coast, assiduously avoiding the news, came home to discover that His Majesty wants US currency minted with his face on it.

I wonder when the White House will realize the original artists are dead.

A few words on the Claremont Institute, the anti-religious freedom activist group for which the writer is a mouthpiece, would have given critical context here.

Tonight is not that night.

Quick quiz: which of the Big Three didn't just plant an unqualified sycophant to run the news division?

Sorry, too easy.

Trump is demanding the FCC revoke ABC and NBC broadcasting license because he doesn't like what they have to say. He won't stop until everything is only supporting pro trump BS. He only wants free speech for him not for Americans

He can afford to be smug. He's got the White House, the Congress, and the Supreme Court on his side. In the days of checks and balances, he'd be a little less so.

the smugness of Stephen Miller in dealing with reporters is off the charts

Still too much weaselly "some say".

NYT: "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

It's a right-there-in-print crime in the Geneva Convention and US War Crimes Act. Why weasel?

Conundrum from a friend: a journalism maxim says "everything stated has to be attributed". The journo/publishers *don't know anything*, they just report what other say. Opposite maxim: "if one person says it's raining & one says it's sunny, it's our job to look outside and report on the weather."
joshuaholland.bsky.social
Journos can just state that there have only been small, mostly peaceful protests at one spot in Portland. There's no reason to cite the PD or Democratic officials or anyone else to debunk Trump's nonsense. That the city isn't burning or being overrun with antifa super-soldiers is objective reality.
