So this interview lasted 2 hours so this “you’re scaring me” part might seem like an overreaction or fearmongering to someone without that context.

There’s a lot of evidence to support my hypothesis that a potential H5N1 pandemic would be worse than COVID.

T. Joseph Mattingly estimates that the 2025 measles outbreak in Texas will cost $90M. Measles is expensive. It's also preventable. Vaccination increases productivity & reduces costs.

Vaccination is healthy for people & the economy.

Penny wise, pound foolish: The cost of reduced support for measles prevention
Measles, a vaccine-preventable disease previously declared eliminated in the United States, is reemerging with over 1400 cases reported in 2025. This …

Banning “dangerous gain-of-function” pathogen research is actually just banning pathogen research. TB causes chronic disease, the supposed cornerstone of the MAHA movement. Hard to see ending TB research on treatments as anything but another targeted attack on science in service of destroying it.

Hard to believe Bari Weiss never went to Smith College because she is the type who used to front like she was cool but then she’d passive aggressively complain about smoking and rap music and then not shut up about the new Macy Gray album

Weiss very intentionally does not describe herself as a conservative or Republican and wraps her politics in terms like "free press." That makes more useful at advancing Trumpism than explicitly right-wing figures. newrepublic.com/article/2014...
MAGA Lite: What “Bari Weiss Conservatism” Is, and Why It’s Dangerous
The new CBS executive isn’t exactly MAGA. But her polite Trumpism will still help destroy America as we know it.

Over the weekend ICE abducted an NIH contractor when he showed up to a courthouse for his green card hearing. He is documented. His wife is a citizen.

He is also member of the skeleton crew of animal care staff that works through a shutdown, to ensure the health and wellbeing of research animals.

Oh I completely agree. Because also there's no reason to do any trial since the MMR is safe and effective and doesn't cause autism.

Whether CFIA culls the birds or the ostrich repo man comes for them, their fate is sealed.
"I think people have pity for the birds ... but let's be realistic. If the government aren't going to kill their birds, the next day, me and the other guys they owe money to are going to be there and take most of their birds," Talica told CBC News.

"So they're going to be slaughtered anyway. So either way, the birds are being raised to be slaughtered, they're not being raised to be pets."

I wrote a thing about how this split the MMR up into monovalents is bullshit that Andrew Wakefield cooked up. It will be used to strip access to the MMR.

The MAHA movement continues to destroy public health.

It's not illegal, but you can't sell poultry vaccinated against flu. In my article, I cover the need to develop DIVA tests and modify trade agreements to address this situation. Many other countries have similar regulations in place and are rethinking them because the poultry losses are so severe.

The ostriches are not the issue. Bad actors who wish to undermine the Canadian government and the health of its people are. The cull must proceed to safeguard Canada's national security.

The US is about to see waves of preventable death & disease because what started as "medical freedom" has turned into the destruction of American science & public health. I will do everything in my power to stand up for science, health, democracy, & the rule of law in Canada.
angierasmussen.bsky.social
A lot of people wonder why I ended up so involved in this ostrich drama. What began as professional interest & scientific curiosity has become more personal. I'm American. Subversion of public health orders & rejection of government regulation has created a crisis in the US.

The law in Canada is that avian flu management requires "stamping out" of flocks with a confirmed outbreak. CFIA's mandate is to preserve Canadian agricultural trade, animal & human health, & the food supply. This isn't just about following the law, but upholding it. The cull must proceed.
angierasmussen.bsky.social
These ostriches are commercial poultry, not pets. The ostrich farmers claim they are not & are beloved pets with names. We must have a different idea of what pets are, because I would never slaughter my dogs for meat like farmer Karen here. (Credit: @sisuvanhell.bsky.social)

People also asked if I would euthanize my own dogs if they got rabies.

Yes, I would.

It would be more humane for them (rabies is HORRIBLE), it's necessary to protect other people & animals, & it is the law. But I don't worry about that because they are vaccinated as well as loved.
angierasmussen.bsky.social
Canada should consider implementing poultry vaccination going forward. It won't change these ostriches' fate, but it could prevent similar situations going forward because it will prevent outbreaks altogether. That would reduce the number of flocks getting culled.
