I keep running into an issue with my attempts at short form social media: I assume I have nothing original to contribute.

ok, let's break it down.
at the core of atproto is the data. it lives own your own computer (or someone hosts it for you). think of it as a hard drive with JSON files on it
data is structured (i.e. has a type), and can references other records on other peoples' computer with a URI like a hyperlink

Did not know that. Now I like it even better
The source code is public, so anyone can literally just take the code and run with it and build something new in that scenario. Also, bsky is a Public Benefit Corp and not solely focused on profit. So much less susceptible to being bought by a billionaire.
