This reminds me from my panel yesterday at @animelockdown.bsky.social when I showed that Ring ni Kakero's Jesus Christ (the WBA Bantamweight World Champion) was 100% just "a Char".

And he debuted in the manga in 1981 right as the first Gundam movie was airing in theaters in Japan, too!

I especially liked this bit where I got to point out that Vegeta was, essentially, a years-long goal of Akira Toriyama's to one day create "a really cool guy like Kenzaki".

I'm be helping bringing up the rear for virtual con Anime Lockdown on September 7 at 4:00 PM EST with Masami Kurumada's 50+ Years of (Mostly) Hot-Blooded Manga!

I'll be going over all of Kurumada's major works in his catalog & explain why tons of what we all love about shonen action comes from him!

Masami Kurumada, surrounded by various characters he's created (or at least drawn, in the case of Samurai Shodown's Haohmaru & Nakoruru).
