Today’s bird of the day is kestrel. Yay! One of my fave birds. Alternate one of the tits (flying ones). So here’s a faraway kestrel, closer up kestrel and a flying blue tit

#BirdOfTheDay #UKBirding #Birds #LondonBirds #BirdOfPrey #NaturePhotography
Photograph of a bird against a blue sky. The bird is small, centred in the photo, shown hovering, with wings stretched upwards, head looking intently down. The kestrel here is light brown with black dots on its underwings. This photo shows a kestrel closer up, sitting in its nest hole. It’s sitting sideways but facing to the front, looking a bit down. Its head is grey, its wings are brown with some black dots. Its tail is grey. This photo shows a blue tit flying out of its nest hole with a clump of something in its beak. It has blue with and the top of the head is also blue. Its face is white with a black stripe going across its eyes. Its belly is yellow, tail is blue. A pretty, small bird.

It looks beautiful. Good luck!

You too? I’m so sorry 💔 Honestly, to make a simple process so infuriating 🤬🤬 I’m gonna need some heart meds too 😒

Ikr? And having people unable to access anything. Her job is now to fill out AI forms. Horrendous
ankemarsh.bsky.social
Yeah. She fills out another AI form. And I get another text saying it may take days. Something that used to take minutes now takes days.

AI is supposed to improve efficiency? My ass. It’s just making some people very rich and destroying the NHS. Their goal, I guess 🤬

Get a text today. No letter found. Can’t reply to the text. Can’t ring the GP about prescriptions. So I ring their appt booking line and am on hold for almost an hour. Finally I get a human who apparently can’t access the emails. So what does she do? 3/

AI will ruin the NHS. I’ve been trying to get a prescription from the GP since Monday. It’s heart medication for my daughter, nothing major 🙄 A letter was sent from her hospital doctor. I couldn’t just ring the GP. Nope, had to fill out an AI form online, then told by text it could take days… 1/

We interrupt your mid morning tea break to invite you for a constitutional down an old street of York.

Today's saunter is down Stonegate, or the via praetoria to our Roman friends.

Come join us!
We are looking at an oil painting showing a street with buildings of different periods from late Tudor to Georgian and newer Victorian buildings. Shop fronts are brightly painted and people are stood in doorways or looking into windows. Some in the distance is climbing into a carriage.

This. So much this. Thank you Dr Goodall

Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview with Netflix in March 2025 that she understood would only be released after her death.

Thank you. Yeah, that cuckoo was the highlight. We actually had two and I got pics several times whilst they were there. No idea if I got one or both - too far away to tell 🥴 but yeah, so chuffed to see them. And those goslings. Just squeeeeeeee! 😍😍 they know how to pose!

Today’s bird of the day theme is migration (migratory birds) or floofball. I’m gonna do both 😀 First is the cuckoo in the reserve this summer. Tormenting with its cuckoo call (cue birders madly running around trying to spot the thing 🤣). Then Egyptian goslings 😍

#BirdOfTheDay #LondonBirds #Birds
A photograph of a tree just coming into leaf. One branch is sticking a bit out to the left and there is a grey bird sitting on it. It is essentially grey and it is holding its wings down a bit. Very characteristic of cuckoos. This was the first time I actually saw the cuckoo after spending days, weeks trying to find it! The cuckoo was very far away, really beyond the reach of my lens zoom. Yay for cropping hahahaha. I mean, honestly! This photograph shows four fluffy Egyptian goose goslings all bundled up together. They are cream with brown patches, with grey-green beaks and eyes. They seriously are one of the cutest chicks ever. I may have died of cuteness overload.

Thereabouts 🤣 might also be Andy’s fault - making her do a survey on everyone’s fave animal: cat, dog, sheep, goat… or the fact that she spent her formative years in that research room and the IoA. I think we are collectively at fault 🤣🤣🤣
ankemarsh.bsky.social
Hahaha not quite. 7 I think - NHM, you took her on a tour of the evolution exhibition. Hmmmm. Maybe the archaeology thing is YOUR fault, not mine! 🤣
ankemarsh.bsky.social
We will be there :) (yeah, guess who is already looking at unis and wants to do archaeology 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳)

When I’m editing, I sometimes need to check references. Before, there might be an error in author name, year, publication. Easily verified and fixed. Now, more and more references are popping up that simply don’t exist.

And here we go. I never wrote this article, and yet it is cited here.

And of course, it sounds so plausible, I seriously checked whether I had forgotten it, or the footnote was slightly wrong.

Climate Change:

It's real.

It's us.

It's serious - and already dangerous.

But there are solutions.

The science is clear: the faster we cut emissions, the less suffering we will cause, and the better off we'll all be.

Polynesia was peopled from west-to-east, but monumental structures likely developed in the east and spread back west.

A photograph of a butterfly on a bramble (blackberry) leaf. The bramble stem comes up from the left and has several leaves on it as well as a thorny stem. The butterfly sits on it, facing away, with its wings half-way up. It is brown with some cream dots; its wings are scalloped. The background is a blurry green.
