Oh yes, and this awesome, searchable "mini-database"!

Australia, companies with #ownership obscured through nominee structures account for 23 million tonnes of #fossilfuel CO2 #emissions every year — about 18% of the national total.

The interactive data tools are great too! You can dig into asset level #emissions and #ownership

Sorry, mistag, it’s not the IFC, it’s Irving Fisher Committee on Central Bank Statistics from the Bank of International Settlements

Increased #ownership granularity includes ownership connections at a 5% threshold, all levels of ownership (subsidiaries, SPVs, etc.), references/citations for each ownership connection, and (soon to come) timestamps for the last time each ownership connection was verified.

This initiative should allow #LEI users access to asset-level data on #energy and heavy emitting assets, a pathway to an independent verification of financed #emissions (thanks to our role as the ownership leads at @climatetrace.org ), and increased ownership granularity in the #ESG and space.

I'm getting ready to present at the @ifcorg.bsky.social and @dnb-nl.bsky.social event on "Sustainability data issues and central banks' experience". Can't wait to increase data interoperability and #opendata in the #ClimateFinance space!

An honor to connect with Al Gore at #ClimateWeekNYC.

GEM contributes ownership data through our Global Energy Ownership Tracker as the sector lead in the @climatetrace.org coalition he co-founded — linking emissions to the companies most responsible.

Really important new dataset in the #fossilfuel space! Combining this data with equity data, such as what is in the Ownership Tracker, is an amazing next step for corporate #emissions transparency and independent verification

Tracing fossil gas finance isn’t easy — but transparency matters.

GEM’s new #GasFinance Tracker shows $26B USD in project finance for nearly 400 LNG terminals & power plants across 13 Asian countries.

Excellent study and use of ownership data - love the focus on Scope 1
climatetrace.org
A new study compared Climate TRACE emissions data to emissions disclosure reports from 279 companies, finding that 75 of those companies were significantly underreporting their emissions. www.ft.com/content/0392...
Social graphic with a background image of a gas flare emitting flames. Text reads:
"Did you know? Nearly 27% of companies in a new study underreported their scope 1 emissions. They are mostly US oil and gas companies."

I love the work done by the @pe-coalition.bsky.social in looking at how to effectively communicate climate issues to skeptics.

Check out @climatetrace.org 's new February emissions release!
climatetrace.org
New monthly #emissions data are now live through February 2025. Global #GHG emissions reached 5.04 billion tonnes CO2e in February.

The #SEC backing away from defending the Climate Related Financial Disclosure rules they spent YEARS building is not surprising under the trump presidency, but it's still disappointing to see

These should not be considered “emergency projects” and the fact that this project class means communities and local can’t weigh in on the impact of this fossil fuel projects is unacceptable in a democracy.
Trump Administration Moves to Fast-Track Hundreds of Fossil Fuel Projects
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has cited President Trump’s claim of a national energy emergency to speed up permits for new gas pipelines and other projects.

It also includes several extractive industries such as coal mines, iron ore mines, and iron and steel plants.

We will be launching a new section, likely in late July, that maps for corporate ownership for the cement and concrete sector - which accounts for roughly 8% of global emissions.

Free to use and download dataset for journalists, researchers, and others who work in corporate transparency, particularly those focused on climate corporate transparency.

This data contains for the full chains of ownership for the majority of the worlds fossil fuel assets.

The Global #EnergyOwnership Tracker just got a major update! 🚀

Now covering two new sectors:
1️⃣ Iron ore mines
2️⃣ Natural gas transmissions pipelines
+ more to come!

Get the latest data and see who owns what in global energy & heavy industry.

Plus, ownership covers many more fossil fuel and heavy emitting assets: coal plants, oil and gas plants, coal mines, steel plants, bioenergy power, and natural gas transmission pipelines.

Soon we will also cover crude oil and natural gas liquid transmission pipelines and cement and concrete plants.

The latest Global Coal Plant Tracker update is live!

Key trends:
➡️ 🇨🇳 leads coal expansion, w/more proposals, construction starts, and capacity than the rest of the world combined.
➡️ 🇮🇳 made up 80% of the 47 GW of new proposals outside China.

Get the data: globalenergymonitor.org/projects/glo...
Bar chart showing proposals, construction starts, and coal capacity brought online in 2024 are higher in China than the rest of the world combined. The bars in gigawatts compare coal-fired power capacity by status and region, in gigawatts (GW). Proposed capacity: China 69 GW, Rest of World 47 GW. Construction started: China 94 GW, Rest of World 7 GW. Started operating: China 31 GW, Rest of World 14 GW. Source: Global Coal Plant Tracker, January 2025.
