Australia, companies with #ownership obscured through nominee structures account for 23 million tonnes of #fossilfuel CO2 #emissions every year — about 18% of the national total.

The interactive data tools are great too! You can dig into asset level #emissions and #ownership

Who really owns 🇦🇺 ’s fossil fuel projects?

A new GEM analysis shows nominee branches of JP Morgan, Citibank & HSBC are listed as shareholders for 50+ coal, oil & gas projects obscuring project ownership.

+ emitting as much CO₂ as 4.4M Australian households.

Taiwan’s energy mix is shifting fast. Can a renewables-led blueprint outpace gas in delivering secure, climate-aligned power?

Aiqun Yu and Cheng Cheng Wu from @globalenergymon.bsky.social argue for a renewables-forward blueprint to reduce gas dependency.
After Nuclear, Renewables Can Power an Energy-secure Taiwan
After last month's defeat of a proposal to revive the country’s last nuclear power plant, Taiwan now has to decide its future energy mix.

GEM’s Oil & Gas data helped inform this important analysis from @ceebankwatch.bsky.social and @beyondfossilfuels.bsky.social on why gas is a dead end for the Western Balkans.

Give it a read 👇

🚨 Western Balkans govts are pushing fossil gas pipelines with an annual import capacity of 10.5 billion cubic metres. These could triple their dependence — or end up as stranded assets.
New report with @beyondfossilfuels.bsky.social explains why gas is a dead end.

Australia’s nuclear sector is unlikely to take off.

A moratorium, high costs, & long dev't timelines all limit nuclear’s role in the country’s energy transition.

W/coal set to be phased out by '38, wind & solar are positioned to lead the shift.

An honor to connect with Al Gore at #ClimateWeekNYC.

GEM contributes ownership data through our Global Energy Ownership Tracker as the sector lead in the @climatetrace.org coalition he co-founded — linking emissions to the companies most responsible.

Great discussion on timely climate communications at CET’s Moving from Data to Dialogue to Doing panel.
