🚨 Recent analyses out on ecogenomics of #Methylobacter led by Magda from our group! There sure is more to the genus than we tend(ed) to think 🤩

🦠 Among #Methylococcales, the genus #Methylobacter has the most genomes and MAGs deposited in the dbs. We found interesting stuff, e.g., some M. spp. encode all three MMOs: pMMO, pXMO, sMMO! Have a look at our ms: doi.org/10.1101/2025...

📢 🦠 🏜️ Meet the first cultured methanogens from oxic soils! Using cultivation and comparative genomics, we descirbe Methanobacterium limanense sp. nov., Methanocella ebodanensis sp. nov., and a strain of Methanosarcina mazei as dwellers of desert biocrusts.

You know sulfoquinovose (SQ)?

No?!

You should if you are interested in diet-gut microbiome 🦠🧫interactions 😉

SQ is a sulfosugar that this part of a ubiquitous sulfonolipid in photosynthetic organisms and thus part of your diet - if you like leafy greens and algae 🥬

New from The Strain Team:
🎊 Springer Nature Discovers MDPI 🎊

Springer Nature has spawned a copycat journal series called "Discover" mimicking #MDPI journal titles and citation behaviours. We even made a browser game to prove it (see 🔗).

Gross! 😀 1/n

We show that degradation of sulfoquinovose, ubiquitous in plants and algae, is a core function of the cow rumen microbiome
