That is exactly how we approach the matter: we know our neighbors and listen to them (we are made up of our neighbors!) and craft political strategy accordingly. But national groups can still influence the reputation of local candidates if they don't take care to remember district characteristics.

Oh man that observation car looks sooo comfortable (spent my childhood traveling in more than a few of those).

To be fair you don't even need that. A social media company with a recommendation algorithm that actively pushes the misinformation that certain punters happily post does the job quite nicely!

I’m not even sure they do it that much better than “troll army in a Bangladesh warehouse”

Once we’ve accepted that non-specialist LLMs aren’t AI and are only a incremental change to white collar workspaces, we can see that what’s left is “the bullshit business” which is already a tsunami

LLM's just do it very well. And let some people make a lot of money in the process.

Sure but we can do that without LLMs

You don't need super intelligence to destroy humanity. You just need to pollute our pool of knowledge with confidently wrong information and then let people make decision after decision on health, infrastructure and engineering with that wrong information.

Yeah I have no idea if super intelligence or even artificial human intelligence is possible or not - but LLM text generators are not either of those.

Whatever the negative impacts of these things, it’s not going to be “take over the world and destroy humanity”
