I FINISHED THE DIVINE COMEDY!

14- A book not worth the hype

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center is a waste of a premise. If you promise me a female bodyguard to a male actor, what I’m hearing is reversed gender roles. But no. The guy still ended up being the strong manly protector and I hated every second of it.

Although I really want to read this in 2026. It’s one of the earliest feminist texts, but since it’s written by a nun it’s probably very religious as well.

I’m just completely fascinated by the first feminist writers.

I got very lucky today and witnessed an owl hunting squirrels! (she didn’t get any but she tried, so no one should criticize her)

13- A book someone recommended

A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson was a fast read for me, and a good one. It’s about the brides of Dracula rebelling against him to gain their freedom. I also adore the cover.

It still hasn't updated

12- A book that made me sad/angry

One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad is about the Western response, or lack thereof, to the genocide in Palestine. Endlessly quotable, it puts into words all the horrific complacency we’ve been observing for years.

11- Unnecessary sequel

This breaks my heart because it’s not a bad book, really not, but if my beloved Murderbot Diaries have a weakest link, it’s Fugitive Telemetry.

You could delete it from the series without consequences. It’s still a fun time, but it’s not on par with its siblings.

Good thing I was looking for an old post and found this one, reminding me to give Cixi access to my big coat! She’s going to be so warm and cozy ☺️

10- A book I wish had a different ending

Not different per se, but longer. Thornhedge is a wonderful little novella by T. Kingfisher that ends very quickly once the plot is resolved, and I would have loved a longer epilogue with these characters.

I will finish The Divine Comedy before it will finish me.

Is The Divine Comedy a comedy?

“In my opinion, which cannot be wrong”

I’m going to start quoting the divine comedy at people now

I have no source for this but I think it’s a wig because his season 1 hair looked different and was probably his.

But also, and this is a hill I'm willing to die on, no other show or movie has ever brought Italian Renaissance fashion to screen better than The Borgias (2011). The costumes by Gabriella Pescucci are insanely gorgeous and accurate.
December 9, 2025 at 6:21 AM
The Borgias (2011) is still a show I want to write about in length someday, because it manages to be both nonsense and brilliant at the same time in a somehow completely cohesive manner.

It's genius historical rewriting in a very flawed way.
December 9, 2025 at 5:59 AM
Oh my god, are you saying one of the lead actors for the gay hockey show I keep hearing about is none other than beloved Quebecer and best Cesare Borgia actor François Arnaud? This is so funny.

I've been following him for years (see: best Cesare Borgia actor) and I still hadn't realized 😂

Virgil: “Beatrice will explain everything to you that I cannot.”

Beatrice to Dante whenever he asks a question: “Are you a fucking idiot?”

8- A book I want adapted on screen

They Called Us Enemy is George Takei’s memoir in graphic novel format about his time in concentration camps for Japanese people in the US during WWII.

I really think Americans need to read/watch this. Especially right now.

7- Best mystery/thriller read in 2025

I read exactly one (1) book that can fit this category, so it’s a good thing that I liked it!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt was a book I’d been wanting to read for years, to the point I was terrified of being disappointed.

This has to be my favourite shot in all of One Piece, because I can't help but cry every time I look at it.

Fan Letter my beloved.
