Excerpt from the NYT... "The greatcoat was worn by officers on both sides of the world wars...it is closely associated with the German military under Hitler. And thus it did not take long for Mr. Bovino’s coat to become, for many viewers, a sign not just of militarization but also of tyranny"

as trump keeps beating up on renewables, a new analysis shows that we can basically offset data center emissions simply by boosting wind and solar a little bit more:
The AI Boom Will Increase US Carbon Emissions—but It Doesn’t Have To
A new analysis finds that data centers’ energy demands will drastically increase power plant emissions over the next decade. Renewables, though, could cut them while helping keep prices from rising.

In Heather Cox Richardson's newsletter from 20 January 2026: "The Kiel Institute for the World Economy, a German think tank, echoed the findings of Yale and Harvard Business School economists, confirming that American consumers and importers have absorbed 96% of the cost of Trump’s tariffs."

A headline in the Financial Times today: Trump says he has received assurances "killing in Iran is stopping". May we also have assurances that the same in the US is stopping?

Of all the absurdities going on right now, it's hard to pick one as that stands out: 'Board of Peace', caused a physical and audible reaction this morning upon reading the proposal, so let's call that the winner for today!

So embarrassed...

We are losing our democracy every single day...we now see the symbolic felling of it via the tumbling walls of the White House.

What do you all think about the ballroom? It's not really whether we need it or not, it's the bypassing of the law and process - again.

Who's OK with this?

Alligator Alcatraz - a pathetic place with a pathetic name.

Illegal immigrants deserve more respect.

The people who created it deserve less.

Who put a bet on for how spectacular the fallout between Musk and Trump would be? Big mouths on platforms playing more school yard games. Not normal folks. Leave one on X and, yes, impeach the other!

It's like a child is speaking from our White House. Can those who voted for him see that this is not normal? We're not in a school yard. We should be demonstrating leadership, not regression and aggression. The self-inflicted wounds, grand standing and time-wasting erode our position and stature.

I really appreciate notus.org They forced the US government to make a statement about the myriad of misrepresentations, as well as remove 7 non-existent reports referenced, within the MAHA report. Keep up the good work! We need you #notus and others like you. Help us to unearth the facts!

Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.

Call him an agitator, dictator, fascist, exhibitionist, racist or bully ... Whatever, it is destructive.

He is destructive and vindictive to society, institutions, people, your friends, mothers, fathers, bros and sisters.

And if he isn't yet, he will be.

We are not on the right path.

Say so!

Quote of the day: Gates on Musk in the NYT...

Well, he’s the one who cut the U.S.A.I.D. budget. He put it in the wood chipper, because he didn’t go to a party that weekend.

Know your terms: Dual state.

The NY Times says, In his 1941 book “The Dual State,” Fraenkel, argued that within Nazi Germany there were two interlinked systems: one where most laws and many rights still applied; and another - a zone of authoritarianism, where government power was unbounded.

Why would Trump really care about economic growth when his family and friends have got their fingers in money making pies? They're all set to make hundreds of millions with a foreign government using their crypto for one of their biz deals. What kind of regime are they playing at?
