Your favourite pragmatic poet, always angry or amused. Owner of too many plants, serving a cat, learning to speak in a mic, preferring the sun.
It must be Christmas, as I misread that as "sometimes snow, sometimes bell" and started thinking maybe there's a poem somewhere there about drinking the winter away.

Fair point. The hardware/firmware people also hired me, being from a completely different background industry-wise :D But I suppose that comes back to the my other post about the experts who think that it doesn't matter. And management(s) often think that.

I really feel that jaded thing, too

Best I can describe this situation is if a diner would ask the chef to boil some potatoes one day, to fry the onions another day, then sauté the tomatoes, then fry some meat. Then the diner puts all the separate parts on their dish, and we all pretend that we've Solved It.

I can't fucking walk down the street for more than 10 mins and not notice "a scenario". However, when I do arrive at the post office, can it correctly fill in all the mf-ing neverending forms that I need to access this or that govt system that's replaced the one I had access to. In Czech, of course.

Tbh, I got the better end of the stick in my transition. But my point was that knowing about the end product, being interested in the problem you're solving, it matters. And it is wildly different industry to industry. What is normal for a web based financial solution is beyond useless in firmware

godFORBID I'd build them an actually useful solution that would make their lives easier! you know, like the one they asked for ironically, haha.

I suppose Time Out London snagged the first movie first, so they _had_ to pick the second one :D

On the other hand, when I reach out to subject matter experts for help some of them will blow me off with "it doesn't matter for your purposes", and I know they can't be more wrong. Thank fuck there are multiple experts, so I usually find someone willing to answer my question / show the end use case

I work in tech. Blows my mind every time this. How can you solve a problem if you don't have any interest what that problem _is_?

I recently transferred from DB pension products for actuaries (and asset mgrs) to hardware industry. Same role, same tools, but oh wow, I need to readjust all my basics

BBC (.com version at least) went for Die Hard 2 in their list for Christmas movies.

I like that idea. That sounds like a lot of fun

A very cat thing to do.
I find that no matter how I organise my "work space", I always end up on the sofa. I think that's because I can't sit straight or still, I need to be able to move without stopping what I'm doing. In the end, I got myself a higher sofa that fits with the desk size (H&W)

Not quite aliens, but this does sound like the Utopia series. To be clear, I mean this one www.imdb.com/title/tt2384...
I never could stomach the remake.
Utopia (TV Series 2013–2014) ⭐ 8.4 | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi
50m | TV-MA

I made friends with my local pub crowd (Rayners Lane area), when one of their drunk nephew’s tried to hit on me. They had the December catchup drinks. The uncle (50s / 60s?) was fine and ended up sending the boy (mid-20s?) home early. After that all the regulars (each over 50) became my besties.

My favourite irony about writing a good prompt is that there is no guarantee the LLM is going to produce relevant results. It may have gone off to hallucinate.
Even if you write The Perfect Prompt and get the precise result, running it again won't guarantee you'll get an equally expected result

I think there are so many bands and only so many venues, we can't expect them all to fit in weekends. I've also noticed that a lot of venues put on better acts on weekdays (especially Thursdays) because a lot of people go out of town on weekends. At least here.
December 11, 2025 at 9:28 AM
Mine are the same! But red, not purple. I just can't seem to find them right now to do the pic for proof :D
December 10, 2025 at 6:07 PM
Suzanne Vega, definitely
December 10, 2025 at 9:10 AM
Bands I like. I might have started liking a band 2 weeks ago, but if I notice they are in town, I'll consider going to the gig. (If I go depends on if I have that evening free, if the tickets are affordable, if I can get to and from the venue.)

I feel very seen by this. Especially when I think about how I get on with my hobbies, and that there is no conscious and intentional "breaking it into parts", I just naturally get on with it bit by bit.

If year 2025 has been classed as “boring”, I wonder where this person has been living for the whole year.
