Well, if you assume that the model makers like OpenAI *truly* believe that most jobs will be replaced by AI, then the obscene amounts of money spent start to make sense. I don't think they truly believe that though, so it's really unclear to me how they plan to get a return on investment.

sadly that's a whole other chart 💀

UPDATED: The sprawling network of AI funding and client connections.

Added:
- NVIDIA investing in OpenAI
- NVIDIA investing in Intel
- AMD investing in OpenAI / OpenAI promising to buy future AMD GPUs
A network diagram showing relationships between major AI, cloud, and hardware companies. Two arrow types indicate relationships: blue arrows mean “A funds or invests in B,” and yellow arrows mean “A is a client of B.”

	•	Lambda is funded by NVIDIA, Supermicro, and Google Ventures, while being a client of Dell, Supermicro, and NVIDIA.
	•	CoreWeave is funded by NVIDIA and OpenAI, while being a client of Supermicro, Dell, and NVIDIA.
	•	Crusoe is funded by NVIDIA, and has Oracle as its client.
	•	OpenAI funds CoreWeave, and is funded by Microsoft, NVIDIA, and AMD, while being a client of NVIDIA, Oracle, Microsoft, Google, AMD, and CoreWeave.
	•	Microsoft funds OpenAI, while being a client of Lambda and CoreWeave.

y'all better not issue a SINGLE ticket during that time for fare evasion, that is unacceptable downtime for a payment system.

oh, before you ask, yes I always pay my fare.

Android’s new security screening feature is bad and I fucking hate it.

They wanted a mechanism for Google’s security team to block malicious developers.

But the same mechanism can be used by the state to control what we can do with our devices.
A new layer of security for certified Android devices
Starting in 2026 and in select countries first, Android apps must be registered to a verified developer in order to be installed.

Newsletter: This is The Case Against Generative AI, a comprehensive analysis of a financial collapse built on myths I’ll dispel, the markets’ unhealthy obsession with NVIDIA's growth, and the fact that there is not enough money in the world to fund OpenAI.

Why should a person on a bike get a criminal summons for traveling 16 mph, while the driver of a 5,000 pound SUV doesn't even receive a ticket for speeding at 35 mph?

Mayor Adams continues his war on biking with this backward rule — despite >90% of public comments opposing it.

I may indeed need to break out the GraphViz 😂

yep - xAI, Anthropic, Gemini are also interconnected here and have their own circular relationships with their data center partners and NVIDIA.

thank you!!! I wasn't sure how to write a coherent alt text for this, yours is so readable

I think Ed's posts on wheresyoured.at do a great job of showing where the money is coming from. the model companies (openai, anthropic) bring money in directly from consumers - but not enough to cover costs. Nvidia brings in money from its business customers. the rest of the money is from banks.

hi, chart is titled ai-funding-and-client-connections. I created it in Google Drawings, and you can just just cite my name or bluesky handle.
anthonycr.bsky.social
top blue arrow was previously connected from super micro to coreweave and is now connected from super micro to lambda. basically the same picture though.

ah shit, I had swapped lambda and coreweave around to make the diagram more sane and forgot to move the super micro funding arrow from coreweave to lambda. fixed

My latest newsletter is about how generative AI companies are risking the lives of the most vulnerable by releasing tools that affirm dangerous delusions -- and the potential human consequences.

And it's about why nobody seems to be freaking out about it.

How many people will generative AI kill before we actually care?
Too many.

oh wow, I didn't realize NVIDIA was also funding OpenAI, that really closes the loop on the whole thing. let me see if I can add these connections in and keep the diagram readable
anthonycr.bsky.social
one question about Crusoe, I was reading their website and saw that they mentioned NVIDIA as an investor in their Series D back in December of last year. that round was only 600m tho and they've raised 15b (?) so I guess NVIDIA's stake must be very tiny. the lines between funds/invests are confusing
anthonycr.bsky.social
Updated
1. Deleted customer connection from Google to Lambda
2. Deleted funding connection from NVIDIA to Crusoe
3. Made Oracle customer of NVIDIA since they're the ones buying the GPUs for Abilene.

LMK if there are any other changes that should be made. Free to use as you wish.

that's the most incredible part of it to me, even without showing the massive amount of money leaving the system to pay the banks and power companies, it still looks unsustainable
