It’s astonishing how china is now claiming Bajo de Masinloc / Panatag Shoal as a ‘national nature reserve’ when they have been committing ecocide there for years through sea-grabbing, ruining traditional fishing grounds by Zambalense people.

Rampant wealth grabs causing public discontent not least in Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines are fuelled by depraved market values in line with the colonial/modern order of things. No decoloniality without quashing kleptocracy!

Maybe the problem is that we keep banging on about studying 🇪🇺 differently within the borders of European Studies, instead of locating our commitments with/in Indigenous Studies, Third World Studies, Plantation Studies, Decolonial Studies, Island Studies, African Studies, Queer Studies…

Using anti-imperialist, Decolonial language does not make someone’s analysis anti-imperialist and anti-colonial. Reactionary propaganda can dangerously be cloaked in such language and I’m not talking about the US context here.
