Yes, the PlayStation port is a little uglier, so I don't think it's worth some of the gameplay changes (Which might be more or less interesting depending on your tastes. I believe the PlayStation version is just a little longer).

I recommend the Wii version and the Sega Saturn version. The PS2 version is a little worse quality than the Sega Saturn version. I don't know how the Switch version is but it's probably a good port of the Sega Saturn version. The Wii version is quite different but I do recommend looking at both.

Since UTRNVRS' setting mostly doesn't have computers, I can't really do it myself, so I'm a little jealous. Although, there sort of is a way.

I'm happy you like the text. Because the game will probably have a very small number of NPCs, I'm trying to get the story across in other ways.

I’m trying to inject a lot of meaning into the random subtitles so that they set tone but can also be intuited beforehand or understood after playing. There might be some secrets, too, depending on how it feels.

To me, although I haven't played it, this kind of thing is what the game is about. Or at least a major pillar. I think simplifying it would drain it, in a way.

I love this kind of thing where the raw mechanical description of something is flavor. It's all over this screenshot and it's very very very very fun.
