stratification is important. i've heard (in regards to shooting games) people say "a laser beam is an automatic rifle that fires faster," but a shotgun is a rifle that fires a bunch of bullets at once, right? when you start making connections like that most meaning is lost unless there's intent.

sometimes an overly broad outlook leads to interesting outcomes but the wider the angle the rarer anything good is going to come out without endless experience. i've heard "there are no throughlines between games, so..." but: hp, exp, keys, doors. you can't pretend your brain didn't light up.

by the way, game design isn't something that's just bound to the realm of numbers and it also isn't something that "doesn't exist". people who don't know better (through no fault of their own) sometimes believe the first and people who think they know better sometimes believe the second.

I used to read D&D 3.5e books by myself when I was a really little kid. I didn't play that much, but D&D probably taught me how to read. I think it would be really fun if there was an UTRNVRS book. Like a physical book! But, of course, making a good one is a whole different thing...

"The UTTER INVERSE tabletop game!!" is an exciting idea, but I don't know who the players would play as or why, and writing about some parts of the setting directly might not be very good... I'm thinking hard about it.

i guess you would generate the “early” version of the zone and make maps from that and then alter the zone afterwards to make the illusion of passing time

it would be cool to see a room in "real life" where a wall is on a map, or a building on a map where there's a ruin... like storytelling+navigation at once

it makes sense for big bathrooms with a lot of toilets, i think, but single bathrooms separated by sex don't make sense at all, right? right?? i realized this because bathrooms in places where people live are just called "bathrooms" and nobody thinks about who goes in

when secrets of the atlas was teased i really thought synthesis was coming back, because of the similar visual motif. anyway, i do hope there’s a really involved league coming up

i like elaborate stuff whether in or out of map. archnemesis was fun because it sort of kept you in one map for a while, and i always am hoping for synthesis to come back…

That's the first league I ever ever didn't play. Actually, I think I killed Kitava, but anyway, you understand. I wasn't really into the league and the update stuff was all far endgame so I felt no drive to try it.

i bought stellaris and was excited to install lots of broken mods and sift through the wreckage but i got annoyed by screen resolution issues and refunded it right away. i’ve never seen a game before that displays the cursor offset from where it’s being registered. maybe i’ll try again, though…

People don’t believe in true love anymore! Waah! So I have to attempt to force it together with unrealistic fantasy stuff. Maybe the big plot twist is that even though you think they like each other they actually do like each other.
