I've been rewatching Star Trek the Next Generation lately. I still love it. I've noticed a few recurring themes that pop up. So this will be my thread of common Next Generation plots ... In no particular order ...

Whether AI will ultimately prove useful I have no idea. Still seems a bit shit to me. But I do know that to me it's not worth risking anyone's safety for, let alone everyone's safety.

It feels out of control... Like they're building survival bunkers for themselves while they continue the business that's wrecking our environment, or pushing ahead with that AGI which apparently scares them enough they want survival bunkers.. but none of us get a say in it when it's our safety too?

Also if you're wearing sunglasses it doesn't count, as no one knows what you're actually staring at

That's very close. Think I would go quavers. But as another poster noted, frazzles is the correct answer.

"I use it, it's just a tool like Photoshop," is the refrain from people I know that has me biting virtually clean through my tongue.

No. It's emptying you.

Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via AI video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people." - author and filmmaker Justine Bateman from a piece by Emine Saner for the Guardian

As an outsider looking in (Brit) yea we occasionally laughed at Bush for some of his howlers, he did at times seem a bit dim.. but yea compared to trump he seems like a towering statesman from some golden era

Enjoy your guess-it's-Tuesday, #StarTrek friends!
Well, in my case, it's more like dozens, but I'm working on it, folks!
😂🤣😂🤣
Three screenshots from #StarTrek #StarTrekTNG "Tapestry"
These involve Cpt. Picard, wearing a blue Starfleet uniform at the rank of Lt. j.g., and the near-omnipotent Q, wearing a white robe, in a glowy white environment.
The first shot has Picard looking down, wondering, "Did I waste my life posting Star Trek memes?"
The second shot has Picard's back of the head on the left side, focusing on Q who says, "Thousands of fans saw your memes, mon capitain."
The third is a close-up of Q, emotionless, adding, "You wasted their lives as well."

..how does he know how well or poorly integrated each of the people he saw were? I don't see how he could, seems like a blanket assumption based on the colour of their skin

I heard the clip earlier he sounded such a mess, like the final boss of "I'm not racist but...". Sounded to me like.. I'm not racist BUT... I don't like seeing black or brown faces about the place! He was claiming the black or brown faces he saw weren't integrated and that was his problem.. but

It's not often I'm suspicious of one of these from word 1, but with the deployment of "yesternight" this one has managed it

I used to love that as a kid. I remember watching one where he claimed he could do almost anything with a paperclip, and so I ended up taking a paperclip around with me wherever I went
