Five years ago we had quite an ice storm here, with over a quarter inch of ice accumulating. Incredibly damaging but also beautiful, such as the ice on this roll of chicken wire.

Yes, you may be killed by falling human made space junk, but the odds remain small(ish) that will occur. The (almost inevitable) #kesslersyndrome may also prevent future #space flights if all those #satellites in Low Earth Orbit start colliding, creating countless debris.

However, we *ALL* have […]

I traveled to the south of Sweden today. And this one turned up totally unexpectedly when I was looking for moorhens and little grebes.
Walking around casually along a little stream next to the river.
So cool! 🤎

I finished trimming the vegetation off one section of hellebores closer to the house, which I always get around to very late even though imo it looks nice.

This flower was facing up at the back of the bed, showing off the speckled inside. Self-seeded plants […]

One of the things we use our canned sour cherries for is muffins. Since we can in quart jars this means we make a LOT of muffins in a batch, haha. They freeze well.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I’ve been thinking about the spaces we share — not just at home, but where we work, create, and connect.

How do you make your workplace and shared spaces feel meaningful, collaborative, or inspiring?

Reflect Orbital wants to destroy the night sky to deliver "sunlight as a service". SpaceX wants to destroy Low Earth Orbit to launch one million "AI datacentres"

The only way to formally protest these two ideas is to file a comment with the US FCC, which is horribly complicated, but the […]

The previous owners here propagated hellebores down in the oaks. The plants are impressively drought tolerant, surviving on only rain even here in western Oregon where rain is minimal in the summers.

This last year we decided to mow the vegetation during fall […]

I was out by the chicken coop yesterday on a nice, rainy Saturday and noticed the long row of witch hazel bushes is now fully blooming. These aren't the big, showy ones but there is a nice mix of colors and, of course, the delightful fragrance. I've started to […]

I'm informally testing out potting up Oriental poppies. I have a big clump that started out as 'Patty's Plum' in a spot that is now too shady. The plants get too leggy, with limited flowers.

I moved a few clumps in the summer, right before dormancy. 5 out of 6 […]
