this is the first encounter on my map described in OP: a bfg +~50 revenants in a big open field +3 archviles that only appear when you try to grab the ammo (and if you avoid them they'll appear at a later and less convenient time), with barons and a cyberdemon raining projectiles on you from above

Chuds use "npc energy" as an insult but NPCs are the most memorable characters of every game they're in.
"you have npc energy" oh you mean I'm well written? Fully voiced by a professional actor, while you express yourself entirely through grunts and mouse clicks? That's what I thought.
I have rich lore and backstory while you just wandered in off the street? People have written award winning fiction due to the extent to which they crave me carnally? I have a place in society and a surplus income, while you must rely on my charity to scrounge a few coppers? That kind of NPC?
