Truly one of Appalachia's weirdest creatures, the spiny softshell turtle (Apalone spinifera).

Snakes are always tricky, it's difficult to find the right balance of scale details. Too much detail and you'll never be done, not enough and it just looks like a worm. I think I found the balance though and I really enjoyed working on this queen snake (Regina septemvittata).

An update on sitting at my desk eating native fruits despite my coworkers lack of enthusiasm. I've moved on to maypops and no one will even try them. Oh well, more for me.
