i wasn't sure what goes in a potato leek soup (i've never made or eaten it) so i looked up recipes while precariously cradling three MASSIVE leeks in my arms. they were really really huge

idk why this is the funniest thing ever to me

obviously full self-sufficiency is absurd, i'm not milling my own flour or anything, but we can do a lot on our own and do it well. bonus is that it makes us extra helpful to people close to us, as well as being engaging and satisfying for us

very nearly all of our home repair/improvement projects are done by us. same with car repairs. we started growing our own vegetables last year. i make a lot of pantry staples myself. i set up a media server so we don't have to worry about streaming. cool

however. it will be that cold and i am doing all of my errands for the weekend after work. friday's forecast is -20°/-9° and the predicted wind chill is like -40°. i do not want frostbite again

i had three different interactions today that were just general "cold enough yet? well, this is what we deserve, we chose to live in wisconsin :)" and it's really not even that cold yet

i'm not going to stop thinking about this until it's done now

i keep trying to get my own sourdough starter going, but i also always do it when i'm very sad and then forget about it when i feel better and get busier. oh well. just flour and water, what's the harm in trying

today kolya was wandering around and yowling. i called for him and he ran to jump into my lap, buried his face in my elbow, and started kneading my legs. idk what he's really feeling, but it made me feel like... at least we're "alone" together
