The Roman camp of Raedykes near Stonehaven is one of the best preserved in Scotland. It covers around 38 hectares and has an irregular outline. Probably built in the late 1st century, by the 1700s it was being associated with the elusive site of the battle of Mons Graupius. #RomanSiteSaturday

Excavated in 1905 at the Roman fort of Trimontium @trimontiumtrust.bsky.social near Melrose, this bronze helmet features images of winged Victory and also Cupid driving a chariot drawn by horses. It can now be seen @ntlmuseumsscot.bsky.social.

A new contract will lead to investment totalling nearly £4bn over ten years, the transport minister said today

Clyde and Hebrides ferries under public control from tomorrow

Key ferry services – including Kilcreggan – will come under direct public control tomorrow. Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop confirmed the news today, saying it would mean almost £4bn being invested over the next ten years. Transport Scotland and CalMac Ferries Limited have signed agreements which are said to be a landmark for ferries serving island and rural communities.
