I'm still shook by this, it's like 5 mice taking down a lion, but the lion can fly 😳
Yellow jacket next to a crevice in a wooden post, out of which a pseudoscorpion is grabbing the antennae of the wasp to hold it down Wider view, with another pseudoscorpion poking out of the crevice to grab at the yellow jacket's stinger basically?? Closer shot of the the previous pseudoscorpion whose latched onto the yellow jacket's posterior, and a pale small baby pseudoscorpion is getting in on the action

A plan view of a eight legged invertebrate that has two long arms reaching out from its head with crab like claws on the end. The body looks like one large reddy brown oval, with the main portion bisected by a lighter line, with each side split into 10 regular sections. The body, arms, and legs, are covered in tiny short hairs, with occaisional longer ones which act as sensory organs.

Lots of money spiders, linyphiidae, today. All the males were ballooning. Females seemed to be staying put. In one pic you can just see a toothed carapace. Also included someone having a spider lunch. Didn't keep any for ID but did find something new for me. Will check it for tomorrows #Aractober

Two spiders that I seem to find if I'm NOT looking for them:
Antistea elegans is a spider I've wanted to find on the Bucks section of the R. Chess, having years ago seen Doug Marriott's records for it on the Herts side
Antistea elegans (Marsh Comb-tail) Cicurina cicur

Yep, outside plant section on the central shelving. You can easily see the webs. Take a few of the black topper caps (pic) and look inside. S.b in the high street and surrounding streets, may be at B&M Look for the retreats with trip wires on fences, brick/stone work. Can be tricky to get out.

If your in that area you should also look for S.bavarica, found lots nearby

A trio of spiders from yesterday's little explore in west Norfolk for #Arachtober Araneus marmoreus and my 2nd ever Zora spinimana from Boughton Fen and a diminutive Euophrys frontalis found in Bodney churchyard. #arachnids #spiders #invertebrates
A large orbweb spider with a pale yellow abdomen which has a dark brown patch towards the rear. The spider is climbing up a brown reed stem. Side view of a large orbweb spider which has a yellow abdomen with a dark brown patch towards the rear and dark brown lines giving a marbled effect to the flanks. The spider is head down on a green reed stem. A pale straw coloured spider with a pair of dark brown stripes running the length of the head and dark stripes and spots on the abdomen. The pale legs also have dark lines. The spider is in a white plastic tray having been sieved from a pile of cut vegetation. A little spider with large eyes on the underside of a whitish stone. The spider's head is pale brown with a dark area at the front, flecked with pale hairs. The legs are also pale brown while the abdomen is pale grey with dark, broken longitudinal stripes.

A suprise find, plus a new species for me today #Aractober First noticed the distinctive web, exactly as described. Quick look and there they were... Badumna longinqua. Lots of webs in the Barry B&M, guessing another location for S.Wales. @britishspiders.bsky.social @sewbrec.org.uk @cofnod.org.uk

We're big fans of spiders over here. This gorgeous red one is the species Araneus alsine, commonly known as the Strawberry Spider. Any guesses why? 👀🍓

A striking red spider with a round body perches on a dried leaf. The body has patterning that makes the spider similar in appearance to a strawberry!

Don't know if I'll have time for a daily #arachtober find this year, so I'll go with an A-Z of genera instead.

A for Amyciaea (Thomisidae), an ant-mimic
B for Bijoaraneus (Araneidae) - 'kidney garden spider'
C for Corinnomma (Corinnidae), another ant-mimic

All looks normal for the start of our BAS field weekend at Wicken Fen with a great talk on the conservation history of this iconic site, but storm Amy is winding up outside. We'll need luck for the 4th Arachtober!

Bit of a rush today, naff pic. Was hoping to have something more interesting but busy. Usually evict these from the house, lucky it's #Aractober for this Pholcus phalangioides. I also know it as a cellar spider but they have a few common names
