Like a friend of mine said "I have more pictures of Fuji than my son". Still feels magic, though.
Mount Fuji seen from the ridge north of Yamanaka Lake. It was a very windy day, so windswept snow forms a plume on top of Fuji while the electric blue sky is mirrored in the lake below, framed by the golden grass around it. Mount Fuji seen from the top of mount Nabewari. To its left side you can see Echizendake/Yobikodake first and then the Hakone caldera with Mt Hakone in the middle. More to the forefront, other mountains of the Tanzawa complex. I'm kinda proud to think I actually ran most of them (some multiple times and/or in a row 😁)

Of course, it wasn't free, but it wasn't expensive either. And things are so much easier with a quick and timely Shinkansen to take you there, a welcoming hotel to stay in, beautiful clean trails to just play on, etc...

Messing around on the Kamo rice paddies near Matsudai (Niigata) We booked a tour with a local guide with about two hours of walking on (traditional rope-and-bamboo) snow shoes The tour ended with a local herb tea and grilled hanko mochi on a panoramic view Lovely weekend, I was happy

The trail down from Mount Sakado, near Echigo-Yuzawa (Niigata), snaking through deep fluffy snow. Everything was so soft and safe you could easily go anywhere you wanted. But the most memorable moments will obviously be in the first half of the route, most notably with that half-way break at the highest rotenburo (open air thermal water tub) in Japan... and all the spots where I could hike without the fear of death 😄

Fun hike last weekend: 23 hours to cover the whole 50km/+4000m span of the Yatsugatake mountain range. A few challenges, from narrow crossings with chains, strong winds and "the longest suspended ladder in the world"...
Said ladder. Perspective makes it look tame, but it was quite unnerving. Peaking in the middle of the night. It was full blood moon, so we dusk was quite impressive.
