i cannot escape the sense that what these people are fundamentally opposed to is political leadership

Anyone serious about solving male loneliness should be proposing suppressing misogynistic content

Every high school has a guy who doesn't act like Tate and doesn't tell who got passed around a whole friends circle based on that rep.

I agree, and that is my principle critique of the vibecession notion. some people like Stancil have rationalised their way into it more slowly but it remains an obstacle to deeper understanding.

You don't persuade people.

Accumulation is something I've been thinking on a lot lately, take all the graphs that get worse after Reagan, is that never felt? Don't we expect some secular decline in economic outlook?

Not to mention how much neoliberalisation has exposed regular people to precarious market cycles
December 20, 2025 at 7:23 AM
There's more to this, people also long compared themselves to TV and movies as well.

But there's this real exposure now to things like crypto grifts, app based investing, omnipresent gambling ads - you can really carry economic anxiety with you in a way only stockbrokers used to
December 20, 2025 at 6:50 AM
Or perhaps some kind of structural issue that has been declining since the 80s that produces commensurate secular decline in economic perceptions.

Inequality for one, but also increasing exposure to market cycles for the majority of people.

It's on them to use a different fucking term then

And are we all at debate club with a little judge to place a winner's crown upon our heads? Or are we interested in actual communication and persuasion?

I'm speaking to the latter question only here. Real insights are often counterintuitive, so we need to make them intuitive.

Ok loony, what's your team then? Everything is just different degrees of genocide? We'd have been better off sticking with the tsars then? You'd struggle to find anything that got worse after they got chucked.

There is probably no more singularly transformative event than the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, any pretension that they are the same as the preceding monarchy is nonsense. Might as well just say there's no such thing as revolutions at all.

You're still in the power user mindset. Regular users actually want a default OS that does what they want. Without a definitive version windows will still be the default.

It's apocryphal but "we have saved Europe from the Nazis, they will never forgive us for it" is still accurate
December 20, 2025 at 12:23 AM
This is an objectively insane view of the history of the 20th century
December 20, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Guy who knows one thing about history has never considered if other countries also had treaties with the Nazis.

Did Czechoslovakia just do that?

Can't have one with an ally is kind of the thing
December 20, 2025 at 12:15 AM
See this is where you're going wrong, there should be no "or" in this post, linux needs a definitive answer if people are going to move away from Windows en masse.
December 19, 2025 at 11:43 PM
Unfortunately your posts about switching to Linux have convinced me that it's still not ready for primetime.

Ohhhh had a guy like this in my classes, he asked if he could play devil's advocate yet again and was taken aback when I told him "no, tell us what you actually advocate for once"
December 19, 2025 at 10:58 PM
Darling just scoffs at whoever this is who hasn't read a particular report, but it's fair to be incredulous that gig work is reduced since the 90s, likely due to consolidation of larger employers and collapses in piecework industries within the US.
December 19, 2025 at 10:30 PM
I think we should be realistic about why people feel this way, take Stancil, if you see media as a pernicious force maintaining a false reality (economic pessimism) through bad faith doesn't it logically follow that people reflecting that same view in good faith are pernicious?

This report at a minimum named specific heads that should roll over this loss
