What's been the overall return on investment in all the security of the last twenty years?
What is the point of having a sprawling national security state if they can’t find out who did a mass shooting in broad daylight five days ago?

one thing that's relatively easy to explain to people in radicalization is that someone may get attached to a feminine thing and the struggle of their enjoyment of it within misogynist societal expectations can lead to bad places.

the harder part to explain is you're talking about my little pony.
the January 6th pipe bomb guy was a brony who faved over 300 pictures of a nazi my little pony character on Derpibooru, the fandom's largest image site.

my favorite thing about the benoit blanc movies is that they aren't really about benoit blanc. he is not grappling with demons from his past. we are not getting flashbacks to the husband whose murder he never solved. he just shows up and does his job like mary poppins for homicides

There are now more guns in the community per capita than in the aftermath of the Port Arthur massacre, with at least 2,000 new firearms lawfully entering the community every week

People are discoursing about this a lot but is this a tech that's in use somewhere that works?

Cos if we're just talking about the gps/maps app telling the speed limit that thing gets it wrong constantly. See yourself bouncing around different streets on your maps and that's in a suburb.
It is not a "surveillance state" for your car to know that the speed limit is 25 miles per hour.

I'm in the fast lane doing the speed limit because that's as fast as you can go 😊 everybody beeps at me to thank me for keeping them safe
Agreed. Some people go faster the speed limit and some people stay in the left longer than needed, it happens. This Speed Limit Crusader dufus filling the left lane because "its not my problem ur breaking the law" is a good example of why many things in life are worse than they need to be.

Car accident most common form of manslaughter also most common cause of death for under 40s
It's not life and death if I do speed, you're blowing the problem out of proportion to feel artificially safe.

This exchange drives me nuts. Neither the interviewer nor Bazelon acknowledges that 1) abortion rights are really popular! and 2) what ICE is doing is hugely unpopular!

So love wobbegongs. Everything is good about the wobbegong. Its name. Its flattened Oscar the Grouch face. Its frondy bits. Its lazy life as a hungry rug. And it’s a shark. Outstanding animal 10/10
The Tasselled Wobbegong is a master of disguise that can eat a fish almost as big as itself in one gulp. It's classified as a shark, but when it lays on the sea floor it looks like a harmless rug if you manage to see it. But with powerful jaws and sharp teeth they are no fish to mess with.

Starmer's Labour is worse than the Tories because there isn't a Labour party waiting in the wings, unless we see some astonishing magic from the Greens. People rejected the Tories and Labour came in to tell them, no, that's not allowed, this is the only policy there is. Fuck you.
