While it is surreal not to be in my classroom (at this time in the day I would be teaching General Psychology) because the government appears unwilling to negotiate in a constructive manner, at least I have a really good haul of potatoes from my three containers.

Well apparently the UCP government has, on the first day of the strike, decided to lockout teachers. That’s sort of like locking the barn door after the horses escape, but it is also a power play on their part.

First, and most importantly, the original inhabitants of the lands now called Alberta were indigenous.

But even if we are going to talk about European colonizers, the claim Alberta was first occupied by Americans is revisionist since the first European settlers in Alberta were from New France.

Charlie Kirk was just shot and killed.

This moment is horrifying in several ways. Political violence is always wrong.

His murder is also already being used among bad actors to fan the flames of further division, hatred and violence.

Andrew Scheer, former conservative leader, posts my tweet with the caption: “Imagine how twisted she has to be that this is her first thought after a man was shot in the neck for expressing his views.
So much hate in her.”

I had posted:

“Terrified to think of how far-right fans of Kirk, aching for more violence, could very well turn this into an even more radicalizing moment
Will they now believe their fears have been proven right and feel they have a right to "retaliate," regardless of who actually was behind the initial shooting?”
